Well at my practices (soccer) we practice right near a beach. so once and a while we run the sand. and wow do my calfs get so tired after i do that!! The next day my calfs always get sore. since its on sand your legs sink so it takes more effort so it works your calfs good. i have seen a difference in them already. but the best way to do it is to use cleats. they have the studs ar the bottem so your legs sink in deeper. and your killing 2 birds with one stone. Cardio and working your calfs!

I second that; I've done it a couple of times and it is amazingly tiring.

I've done this also with my travelling soccer team, I would enjoy doing it if it weren't for having to get the sand out of my cleats when I'm done..

i live 5 blocks from the beach so i run on the beach all the time, soft sand of course, don't give me none of thid running by the shoreline stuff, also what is cool is that they have somestairs so i'll run the soft sand then the stairs, running on sand gives you more of a workout cause you have to use all the stabalizing muscles in your legs because of the uneven running surface, damn i'm gettin giddy about my mornin run tomorrow. I get to kill two birds in one stone cause i get to check out the waves for the day too

I always thought running on the soft part wasnt good for your feet....since it puts preasure on your foot ligaments and causes sprains and stess fractures unless im wrong.
