Flipping my life black to white. Ex marijuana user, hopefully soon to be ex smoker. I am currently using nicorette. I love to sit on my as in front of my computer and do nothing. But I don't want to anymore. I am 5'3, 150 pounds. Female. I have great leg muscle. I do not look my weight. I would like to achieve a tighter core, and obviously get rid of excess fat from my tummy and hips. Goal weight 120? I've been eating healthy, and drinking a lot of water for prolly 2 months now. My first time running on my own free will was today. And I ran maybe 200 yards, and then walked 200 yards. I repeated this for 15 minutes. I was very out of breath thats why i had to walk. I feel very out of shape because of that. And I need pointers, and motivation to keep doing this. I feel it is imposible. I dont want to be pudgey. I dont want to be scared of swimming. Please tell me if my attempts are pitiful. Or is this good for just starting to run on my own free will for the first time in 2 years. I am so lost.

If you would tell me how to 'start off small', but still have it be effective. It would really help me out.

Very cool!

Best advise I can give you is read the diet & training stickies. Then ask specific questions and they'll be answered.

Congrats on moving in the right direction girlie! ;)

I go to school 5 days of the week, and work 3 days, sometimes more. Monday and Wednesdays when i work, i get home late. and are exhausted.

So reading the stickies.. here is what i have come up with.

My goal is to weigh 120 pounds by June 13th. Thats a 30 pound loss. That sounds impossible. (June 13th is my graduation).
To start out with. I was thinking. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: Run as much as I can, and fast walk to catch my breath for as long as I can. Maybe a minimum of 30 minutes. (Today was 15 minutes, but I'm ready for more. Waiting for nightfall.) I will do 3 sets of 40 crunches. But split them up by doing 20 of those lay on your side leg lifts. And also lay on my back and hold my tummy muscles and do bicycle moments with my legs for 5 minutes. And as this becomes easier, do more of all of that. Are there any other exercises you would recommend?

Smart move to gradually get into it.

Do you have access to a gym or equipment?

Sort of. I work for a college, and so I am faculty. And get to use the gym. But if I ever get over there.. I also don't like to work out with other people. :-( makes me feel like they are all staring at my fat.

First of all, congratulations on your decision to turn your life around and welcome to the IronMag boards. You'll find plenty of support from a lot of informed people.

A very important concept you'll have to understand is that transforming your body is, first and foremost, a matter of changing your diet. Ultimately, you are were you are as a result of what you've been eating, but that's ok. We'll show you how to turn it around. You almost need to imagine that your cardio and crunches and all that serve to burn no calories or have any effect. They do serve a purpose, but diet is that important.

Track your current diet for a few days: FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal
It's easy and free, and if you have any questions about it, we'll be happy to answer it. After a few days of tracking, let us know what your grams of protein, fat, and carbs work out to being on average for each day.

Also, one of our moderators--Built, has a lot of useful information on her blog.

Hi - I'm late to the party here.

You can't cardio off the weight so please don't run right now. Walking is good for you though, do as much walking and cycling as you enjoy.

Now your diet - what calories, and what grams of protein, carb and fat? That's the info we need.

30 lbs by the middle of June might be a bit much. 10 would be very lovely progress though! A pound a week is pretty much them most you want to lose for women our size - we're just not that big. A 200 lb man can lose faster than this, but they eat a lot more than we do.

Read the post in my sig about getting started. There's a nice little summary that should help you get started.
