So I have been working out for a while now, and recently I noticed that I had acquired these scar-like lines that go across the area where the arm meets the chest. Not really on the shoulder, but nore near the armpit. Is it my recent weight trining taht caused this and does this mean I am doing something wrong? I dont feel like I have ever over worked myslef and I havn't injured myself either. I'm not sure if this is normal or why this happened. Also, will these lines ever go away or will it basically remain a scar-like mark forever? Thanks.

They're stretch marks. I have them too. It's not a big deal, but making sure that you remain hydrated helps improve the elasticity of your skin and should reduce additional marking. Also, vitamin E oil and cocoa butter are supposed to prevent them. They will fade in time, although maybe not totally.

Yeah, I just recently got one on my left armpit, looks kind of shitty. I gained about 25 pounds in 3 or 4 months.

Could this be a result of poor stretching exercises prior to workouts possibly?

No. Your skin stretches when it you get bigger. You've got either fat or muscle pushing it out and creating this marks or you've got muscle pushing fat our creating them. Generally you don't develop stretch marks around your chest connecting to arm area unless you have muscle pushing through.

A couple of people suggested that these stretch marks could be due to lack of zinc in your diet.

What are the best ways to prevent this from happening (I know theres been a few suggestions), and what can I use to treat the ones I have currently?

Certain lotions. Cocoa butter and water is about all you can do. It's possible to surgically remove them, but no idea the cost etc.

It's genetic too. Some people just have more elastic skin naturally. I wish I new about cocoa butter and skin care in general 8 years ago when I first started lifting.

I dunno why the front armpit area seems prone to tearing in most everyone.

Your arms drag against that area with virtually every upper body gym lift you perform.
