I have been running a lot for the past 3 months, training to do 1 1/2 miles in 12 mins or less. Due to all the running and a few months of stairclimbing with a 50lb vest I have acquired shin splints. I stopped running, playing basketball, stairclimbing, for two weeks hoping that they would heal by then. However I still did my 20 rep squat routine with 185lb. (I weigh 142lb) Unfortunately they haven't healed and can feel a slight pain in my shin when I run or walk. Does anyone know what I should do or not do to help the shin splints heal quicker?

I get them when I run in my military jungle boots excessively. One thing you can do is "reverse calf presses". Basically do calf presses with no weight just siting on the floor. You are looking to stretch the muscle on top of your "shin". Do about 50 of those of each leg a couple of times along with a good calf stretch before running. Works for me usually.

Is there anything else you can do or take to help it heal quicker?

Take time off. I hate shin splints. I get them sometimes when running in stupid formation for PC (military).

How ya doin trHawt? Keep your head down mayn.
As far a splints go do those calfs and all will be well. Also use a gell-pad to help absorb the shock to your shin that is sent through the heel as it impacts the ground. I did these two while in my racquete ball days and my splint went away. Had it bad too. Walking was even a problem for a few weeks till I corrected the problem with the gell-pads and calf work.

Pretty good! How's it going, bro? I'll have to look into the gell pads.
Thanks for the info.
