Prince noted he's thinking about putting political topics in a sub-thread of Open Chat.

Open Chat seems to be a place for various light-hearted topics, and a place to laugh, relax and have some fun. Political threads tend to be divisive, cynical, and negative. IMO, these political threads make Open Chat less jovial.

So, what do you think: should 'political topics' be in a sub-thread, so those that want to go into this pit can, while those who want to have less serious interaction can avoid the political threads?

is it really that difficult to avoid the political threads? i mean really. how hard is it to avoid? and once you know what it is, is it really that hard to stay out? does your computer open up threads against your will on multiple occasions. leave it as it is. no one is being forced to enter or to post.

Fufu endorses an anti-political policy in regards to thread context in the open chat sector!!!

And that is for the record!

Thanks for your opinion, fufu,

Can you TELL us what it is. Explain?

TIA, we're confused. :hmmm:

Ok, I am in a good mood today, so my brain isn't all hazy. This is the deal. When political threads break out, damn near all of IM has an opinion. Never never never will there ever be a civil political thread. It is like a football rivalry or a gang standoff. The cons and the libs are goign to bla bla bla for 30 fucking pages.

Never ever ever will anybody consider their opposition's point of view because it turns into a big dick competition and nobody will even run the risk of being wrong and have proven that their dick is the smallest in the thread, so it turns into double talk, spin on spin on spin, with insults and half-wit thrown in.

Now here is the kicker. Many of us on IM have a psychological disorder, myself included, that causes us to forget at the moment of hitting the post button that our opinion isn't worth a fucking thing, and that nobody else gives a shit what we think, and nothing we say will change what anybody else thinks. The second we lock up into debate, our brains are 100% focused with one and only one thing... to make anybody who disagrees with us look stupid. Anybody disagreeing with this is either a saint or a lying to themselves.

Now I will hit the new post button, and there it is... a new Obama thread for the week. I don't have to open it. I don't have to read fellow IM poster's opinions. Then again, I don't have to bite my fingernails and I don't have to smoke pot, but I am compelled by some powerful force that almost seems to come from outside of myself to do so. So just like biting into a thick fingernail and ripping the nail straight into the cuticle, I will open these threads and proceed to cause myself mental anguish.

Now it wouldn't be so bad, but funny post are at an all time low, by the way god bless anyone and everyone who starts a funny thread. since it is an election year, the political threads are non-stop.

Now I want an honest opinion from everyone. Is there anyone here who has actually had their mind changed about Obama because of something they read in a IM political thread? I submit that there is no one who has. I would be real fucking surprised if there were. Then what is the need for 50 Obama threads?

Ok, that might have been a core dump.

Well, awesome. You are the exception, and I should have had you in mind when I typed that, because I have noticed in the past that you are one of the few people that will consider opposition's point of view when things aren't exactly civil. I think you handled yourself well when begin teamed up against by religion haters in the thread that I need not even name.

i appreciate that. truth is i enjoy hearing the other side, even when it is so obviously wrong. It helps me articulate my argument better to hear the other side.
