I just started to get sick(sore throat/cold) yesterday and was wondering if i should either take this week off, work out as normal, or cut my workouts down to a half hour.

If i continue to W.O.will my sickness last longer? And will i even make any gains if i do W.O. while sick. :hmmm:

I don't work out when I'm sick. Immune system is copping a beating and pulling nutrients from everywhere and the capacity to stimulate muscle fibres enough to cause hypertrophy is drastically reduced. I'd say take a rest and get over the cold

Great Advice guys!

Hey, this forum is great for helpful info - keep up the good work! :thumb:

But what about if you are feeling run down - "possibly" going under the weather??? I'm thinking catch 22 - you feel crap because you haven't been exercising, and life is getting on top of you, and so you dont go gym, because you feel crap.

Where do you draw the line, between deciding when to rest - when you really need to? When does that fall over into making excuses to not going to the gym? (I'm not refering to anyone here - but rather I'm looking for a rule of thumb to follow)

What I'm trying to get at is - there have been times when a trip to the Gym has really helped clear my head - and picked me up.....

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated on this.

Martin!
:p

If it's a psychological thing, go for it. You'll feel better when you start getting active and getting fitter. If it's a physical thing (i.e. cold, flu, hungover etc), stay out of the gym and let the illness run its course.

If you get me sick by coming to the gym and training with the flu i swear I'll piss in your water bottle when you're not looking :pissed:

Guess i'll take the week off.

Really bad time for me to get sick. I've been making really good gains on bench press lately, either doing 2 more reps of the same weight i did the week prior. Or upping the weight by 5lbs more than i did the week before and still able to do the same amount of reps.

I wish I were making good progress on the bench. :(

Take as much time as you need, be it days, a week, or even more. Concentrate on getting healthy again, odds are you will be just as strong, if not stronger once you resume training.

Your body needs rest, so rest it. :thumb:

Benching 210 at age 16 is pretty damn good man!

Keep on doin' your thing...you'll reach your goals.

Thanks for the encouragement, but my bench has gone down by probably 10 or even 15 pounds by now. At least I'm progressing in the deadlift and clean and press if nothing else.

I'd take a break and just focus on eating well.

Well i've been sick since sunday and today is thursday and i have already lost 6lbs due to my lack of appetite. I know it was only fat but when your pretty skinny and it took you a few weeks of downing wieght gainer to put on the weight and then you lose it, it kind of sucks. Only if i was done with my bulking stage and cutting ,things would have worked out well.

I might train if I just have a mild cold with a little runny nose or something. If I really feel sick, then I take off as long as needed.

Try taking a break and/or doing higher reps for a change.
