I'm on a high protein diet , liftin using proper form etc.. but I've heard muscles grow while you sleep , so my question is.... how much sleep per day do i need ? I usually get 6 hours of sleep every nite.

When I was in high school 9-10 hours every day, now I am around 8 hours, 6 effects my brain and my body its not enough for me.

what if u split ur sleeping hours...like 6 at night and about 2 at noon...
It is pretty damned for students u know ...
or 5 at night and 4 at noon :D

You need REM sleep. I doubt you will get that in the day. Better off getting it all at once if you can.

what is REM ?
stupid i am...but anyway i like theirs' 'losing my religion' and 'lion sleeps tonight'
;)

Stands for rapid eye movement. That is when you are in deep sleep and your muscles grow!

"power naps" are great, so if you can only get 6 hours in at night and another 2 hours in the afternoon that should be fine.

Couple of fun facts about sleep: (remember these are from articles I've read).

1 hour of sleep during the day is the equal to three hours of sleep at night. That's why we feel so refreshed after a short nap for 30 minutes or less.

And apparantly, your REM cycle is 45 minutes long...so when you nap, you should plan to nap for 45 mins, 1.5 hours, 2.25 hours, etc and you will feel much better because otherwise you're waking up out of the wrong part of your sleep cycle. Believe it or not I have often found this to work very well.

Yes, if you interupt sleep you screw yourself out of REM. It takes something like 45-60 minutes to enter REM, interupting it even once a night affects your memory and performance overall. I forget how many cycles the average person goes through per night.

I try not to sleep more than 1 hour during the daytime when I nap, otherwise I stay up too late at night and have a hard time falling asleep sometimes.
