So this blonde walks into a........propeller!!!

I read this. Sad story, but I just honestly don't understand how you 'accidentally' walk into a plane propeller?! Last time I checked, those propellers aren't that silent. SMH.

Maybe they should've had one of these for when she got off of the plane.

Why the hell wouldn't the pilot have the prop completely stopped before allowing passengers out of the ******* plane?

The pilot had landed at a private airport north of Dallas when Scruggs exited the plane and walked directly into its propeller. The blades sliced the left side of her face and shoulder and severed her left hand. She is now stable at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. (snip)

Lauren underwent several surgeries over the weekend and is now in stable condition. The extent of her brain injury is still not known, family spokesperson Janee Harrell told ABCNews.com.

Scruggs, who started a fashion website Lolo, was not drinking at the time of the accident, according to her parents. While it was dark out, investigators aren't sure why Scruggs didn't see the propeller. Her family thinks she may have turned back to thank the pilot when she walked right into it.

"It was a really horrible accident," Jeff Sruggs said on "GMA." "I've been told she got out of the plane afterwards. And I'm guessing she went up to thank the pilot. She would have been grateful for him taking her up to see the Christmas lights around Dallas."

They couldn't reattach her hand? Her father said the girl's left eye is "questionable."
 
Shes lucky to be alive. I mean her life as a mutant will be quite a humbling experience for her. Maybe she'll touch peoples lives and make a diff when she discusses planned parenthood to avoid these instances.

Yup, it was the pilots responsibility to ensure the safty of those near his plane. Just like when the pilot of a helicopter puts his hand on your head and ushers you into the cabin...

But, this is really tragic. THe poor girl was truley beside herself. :roflmao:

did you hear about the helicopter pilot who walked into his propeller? the investigators revealed today that he had dandruff. they found his head n shoulders in the bushes.

I had a good friend in Atlanta who gave bi-plane rides at the local airport. He was stationed out an eatery there. I would help out as ground crew and pre-flight the passengers and escort them to the bi-plane. We would do "hot swaps" with the prop turning to maximize turn around time. During the pre-flight I would explain to the passenger what to expect, what not to touch in the cockpit and give very clear instructions on how to walk out to the plane and how to enter and exit the cockpit. I also explained very carefully that the prop would be turning and it would kill them if they came in contact with it.

You wouldn't believe how many simply ignored what I told them and as soon as the plane touched down would start heading out there without a clue for what was happening around them. I finally got to the point, I would stand right next to them and then lead them out with my hand on their arm, and of course another crew member would escort the returning passenger. It seems that no matter how much warning you give to someone, some people are hell bent on killing themselves out of stupidity.

I've worked retail and I currently work as an elementary school art teacher. Trust me when I say that people do not listen nor do they read signs.
 
Lauren Scruggs??? Family Taking Legal Action After Daughter???s Horrific Accident

While Lauren is making significant progress, a source tells us her parents are starting to focus their attention on who should be held accountable for her injuries.

Lauren Scruggs is walking and talking although she???s still in Parkland Hospital???s ICU in Dallas. Texas. HollywoodLife.com has spoken to a source close to the Scruggs family and they tell us that the family is faced with a very difficult decision.

???Lauren???s family is one of the nicest you???ll ever meet,??? our source says. ???The last thing they want is revenge. But they feel like someone should be held accountable for the lack of safety and good judgement on the runway. It wasn???t entirely Lauren???s fault and they want justice and answers.???

The source goes on to tell us that several high-powered Dallas attorneys have reached out to the family and offered to represent them and help them with their case.

???They aren???t looking to make any money off of this,??? our source says. ???They just want to find out what happened and make sure what happened to Lauren never happens to anyone else???s son or daughter.???

According to a spokesperson for the family, Lauren sustained severe head and shoulder injuries on Dec. 3, when she turned to thank the pilot after he took them to see Christmas lights with a friend. She was caught in the spinning blade and her left hand was severed, she suffered a skull fracture, brain injury and could lose her left eye.

On Dec. 7 her family announced that Lauren was walking and she blurted out the words ???30 steps??? in reference to how many steps she had taken. We are so glad to hear she???s making a strong recovery.

this isn't funny....it's sad that it happened.....understand she was probably very food deprived and not having a clear mind....this happens in the navy on carriers too, people not being alert and getting into the path of the jet engine and sucked thru

The model who was left terribly injured after accidentally walking into the propeller of a prop plane showed that she bucks the stereotype of her profession and shrugged her facial injuries off as ???not that bad???.

Lauren Scruggs, 23, lost her left hand, may lose her left eye, and suffered major injuries to her shoulder, face, hand head.

All of that was not enough to dampen her spirits as her parents reported Thursday that she had taken 30 steps and seen her reflection without flinching.

???She???s got her spunk back, her personality,??? Lauren???s father Jeff Scruggs told The Today Show Friday.

He said that she took a mirror and held it up to her face, shrugging it off, saying: ???It???s not that bad???.

???She???s excelling in the physical and occupational therapies and they're not as concerned about. It???s more of a concern about the cognitive and neurological therapies that she???s going to need after this,??? he continued.

A post on the website Caring Bridge which connects patients to loved ones, Lauren???s page reveals she had managed 30 steps five days after the accident which took place last Saturday night at a private airport in Dallas, Texas.

After a brief walk in the hospital, Lauren uttered the word ???thirty??? to the astonishment of her family.

???We're thinking what does that mean? And she said "I walked 30 steps",' her mother Cheryl said.

In spite of the recent signs of encouragement, the fashion blogger and model faces a long period of recovery as she has already undergone several emergency surgeries on her face and shoulder.

The online update added: 'The left eye is still non-responsive, the doctors will continue monitoring it for the next few days.

'Please pray [for] Lauren as she begins to learn the extent of her injuries.'
She is believed to have been returning to the two-seater plane to thank the pilot, who was a close friend, when she accidentally walked into the propeller.

Lauren was riding in the private prop plane, owned by the pilot, to look at Christmas lights from the sky. Now, her parents say that she has no recollection of the incident at all.

'I was just able to hold her and??? that's the toughest part of it all, just seeing her waiting there and waiting for the help. All I could do was tell her that I love her.'

Family friend Janee Harrell said: 'They landed and Lauren was getting off the plane so they could pick up another passenger. It was dark... we are thinking that Lauren came back to thank the pilot, and didn't see that the propeller was winding down.'

Miss Scruggs, who created her own style website LOLO Magazine, graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 2009 and has worked as a stylist on Gossip Girl. She recently interviewed Twilight star Kellan Lutz at New York Fashion Week where she also met fashion muse Chloe Sevigny.

According to RadarOnline, Lynn Lunsford, Mid-States Public Affairs Manager with the Federal Aviation Administration, said that an integral part of the investigation into exactly what happened is why the propeller was still moving when Miss Scruggs got off the plane.

'It appears that the pilot left the engine running at idle while she exited the plane to switch places with another passenger. That's one of the aspects of the investigation,' he told RadarOnline.

The pilot has not yet been identified but he is thought to have been a friend of Lauren's and recently purchased the plane.

Ms Scruggs, from the suburban area of Plano in Dallas, was taken to the Parkland Memorial Hospital where her devout Christian family, including her mother Cheryl, father Jeff and twin sister Brittany, gathered at her bedside.

On a related note, it's obvious that this wouldn't have made the news if the girl wasn't pretty? I wonder how many others have been mangled similarly.

That???s the obvious joke, of course, but a California businesswoman wasn???t laughing after she heard her husband was in Sin City with another woman.
???I don???t know who she is,??? Carolyn Connelly said of the 21-year-old, who was rushed to a hospital Thursday night after being struck by an airline propeller near McCarran Airport???s executive terminal.

The pilot, Don Connelly, owns the single-engine Beechcraft airplane. Connelly and his wife own Connelly Equipment Rental in El Cajon, Calif.
Carolyn Connelly called FOX5 after hearing a report that the woman was injured by her husband???s plane. She said her husband left home days ago, saying he was going away on business -- but not to Las Vegas.

She doesn???t know the woman who was injured and said her husband doesn???t want her to, describing the incident as a ???rendezvous gone wrong.???
???I do know she's someone's child, she's 21 years old. She belongs to somebody and I don't know if her parents have been notified or what the situation is with her because I don't know her,??? she added.

Connelly said she suspects an affair and was contemplating calling a divorce lawyer.

FOX5 placed several calls to Don Connelly, but they were not returned.
The young woman was taken to University Medical Center, where she was last listed in fair condition.
