Softball Training?

Last year I asked major league scouts from multiple orginizations the exact same question when I attended various scouting camps. I didn't specifically ask them what "exercises" to do, but asked how I increase my bat speed, most of them all replied balance is so very important in generating bat speed, and some others replied by saying to work on your forearms/wrists. Anther important are to work on are the abdominal muscles because your abs creat a powerful twisting motion during the swing. Rotational torque provides speed and momentum to the arms and eventually the bat head.~~Best of luck~~

Yeah, practice swinging a bat.

Yeah, I Personally take 200 "dry" swings per day. Taking "dry" swings can help quite a bit.

Do not use a weighted bat.

*gasp* I hadn't thought of that! My hero

It seems that you are comprehensively ignorant (and belligerent), so I'll refrain from advising you.

There are some guys out there that put a donut weight on the end of the bat & swing it 100+ times. It just looks like it would eventually cause injuries, but they claim it helps. I definitely don't want to get injured, but I'm looking for at least another 30-40 feet in distance out of my hits. There is only one bodybuilder out at the softball fields & he doesn't do any bat drills.

Thank you for the tip. I just got a stability ball & plan on upping my core workouts. Hopefully that will help. I'd like to get one of those platforms w/ a half ball on the bottom of it that you stand on to help your balance. ;)

Try using a weighted bat for 50 swings/50 without

good info. along with that don't forget to train your legs. and make sure to stretch out your legs and low back, you want to be flexible so you have a fluid swing. your torso controls that

Check out this forum: http://www.softballfans.com/forums/ There is a ton of information about softball training on there with special emphasis on increasing bat speed.
You can also check this out: http://www.swingmechanics.com/ I have not personally tried this but many on the softballfans forum have and they said it produced great results.
As with the other posted replies I would concentrate on core training as well as forearms. As I'm sure you know, a softball swing is a total body movement, just keep lifting and getting stronger in general and the long ball will come.
Good Luck.

This reminds me of golf. How do the pros generate so much club head speed at the moment of impact. Strength? no. Grip strength? no. It is balance, rythm, and timing. Then after that comes the snap in the wrists but that can only come once the others are solid. It is about the swing, the weight transference from the backswing to the follow through and where your centre of gravity is throughout the swing. Anyway sorry this ain't a golf forum just remember going through this myself years ago.
