I was at a New Years party and I got an absolutely horrible pain in my chest. It has been the worst pain I've had since I burned my hand on an oven back when I was 5. I will give all the details of the night.

Ate a great dinner around 6 P.M. Consisted of Milk, roast, mushrooms, crab legs and butter to dip it in.

New Years party started around 9 P.M. Drinking started around 9:45 P.M. All together I had 2.5 beers, 3 half glasses of champagne, a cherry dipped in everclear and 1 cuban cigar. I didn't really drink that much, but I'm a lightweight so I was fucked up. I had drank all of that before 1 A.M.

Around 1:20 A.M I got this horrible pain right where my sternum is. It was so painful I couldn't even stand up. I layed in the fetal position for 45 minutes. I never had the urge to puke. It wasn't in my stomach it was way up by lungs/heart area. Right by my sternum. I don't even know if I can describe the pain. It felt like.....someone was squeezing an organ in my chest as hard as they could for 45 minutes straight.

My friend sat with me in the bathroom the whole time. He gave me 2 Tums and 2 Advil. I don't know if they helped. But eventually the pain subsided and I could finally walk around. My legs/arms were wobbly and all I did was just sit on a chair the rest of the night.

Anyone have any ideas? I was almost ready to call my mom to take me to the hospital when I was laying in the fetal position.

His only idea was that it was heartburn. But this wasn't no burning sensation. This was a sharp aching pain that had be panting for 45 minutes.

Also, please don't give a response "Go see a doctor!" I'm going next week most likely. Hopefully.

um well chest pain is pretty serious, it could have been anything from a muscle spasm or something to a small heart attack or lung related disease process. Get to the doc sooner rather than later and if you ever have that accompanied with breathing problems, dizziness, anxiety, vomiting, numbness/pain that radiates i'd get to the ER quick.

Turns out it was just heartburn. The combination of fatty foods, alcohol and smoke created horrible heartburn.

Acid Reflux runs in the family, my dad had it really bad. It actually caused his cancer which lead to his death.

So that being said.... does anyone know how to prevent it?

Dont overeat, dont eat just before bed, dont lie down and eat either.

I had it a while ago, thats what the doc told me, lol.

you seem to have some health issues lately, please go get a physical

What Gaz said, smaller more frequent meals, no lying down for about an hour to an hour and a half after meals, keep in mind what you ate before you get it and avoid those foods (a food log may help with this). In general alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, spicy and acidic foods (citrus fruits, tomatoes) and rich, creamy foods are the main causes (the last bit about the rich creamy is from my own experiences). You can keep some Tums lying around and chew on a dose of those (usually 2-4 tabs but check the package) for instant but not very long lasting relief. If you notice it happening more than 3x/week tell your doc and you can explore some other options, don't just pop Tums because its Calcium which can constipate you pretty bad and have other sides if taken chronically.

Yeah I talked to my mom about it. If I get heartburn again... I'm off to the doctor.

I agree with premier.

you have pain in your lower abdominal region and now a sharp chest pain.

get to the doctor and stop trying to self-diagnos.

Oh well i kindda assumed (which is stupid) that a doctor told you it was acid reflux. Get your ass to the doc, like the rest said and get a physical.

my friend drank too many screwdrivers and ate too much about a month back and had the same thing.
