Firstly, should I do them on my lower push or lower pull day?

Secondly, I feel completely off balance with my right leg, but I have no problem with my left.

Does anyone know the cause of this and how I can correct it, or is it just something I get used to over time?

(I've only just started doing split squats, but I have the same problem with lunges, so i don't think it's the fact that I'm new to them)

You should put them with your lower push day. As far as the balance goes, it'll come with time. Besides, it's normal to have better balance with one side compared to the other, but no doubt you should get better the more you do them. Unilateral movements take a lot of balance(try unilateral deads sometime) I just think of it as an added bonus.

Word to big bird.
