Squats?

I don't feel that there are any movements that are necessary, rather movements that are more or less important.
I think squats are one of the most important.
 
seyone said it all. Some exercises are more beneficial than others but there are no absolutes.
 
I have read that squats are the single best exercise you can do for your body. I also read that no workout routine is complete without squats. Don't ask me where I read this...I just did, and it stuck with me.

I agree with that statement, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to do them. Just because something isn't the "best" doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.
 
If I had completely omited squats and deadlifts from my training, I'd probably have the strength and muscular development of a field mouse.I think it is crucial that either squats,deadlifts or both are included in your training.
 
i believe, squats are great, but they are not for everyone, depending on your body structure. i don't get much out of them, but i always do different deadlifts, which work well.
 
If done properly, I think they can be very benefically to all areas of your lower body, and parts of your upper body as well.
 
Squats and variations of the squat should be a part of most routines. I do believe that they are necessary for functional strength and overall development.
