I just got my 12 year old bro into resistance training. What do you think i should start him out with? I was thinking full body workouts mostly bodyweight movements.

Training of correct form, diet, stretching, and set up a good balanced routine.

1) full body workouts (primarily compound movements)
2) start with lots of BW...push ups, chin ups, supine pull up, squats, lunges, step ups
3) core stability exercises....planks, bird dogs
4) cardio work (aerobic and anerobic)
5) flexibility training...start now!

try to make his workouts short and fun, so he doesnt quit. Make sure you teach him form, and not to care about the amount of weight, and teach him that he will get stronger/bigger if he uses good form, even if he has to lower the weight, start him out with 15 reps for a couple of months, and than you can change that based on his goals. I would not let him do any overhead pressing, because at 12 he probably has a weak core, and that can lead to very dangerous things, when I started working out I was doing military presses and I fellover (because of a weak core), I was very lucky I didnt get injured. Make sure you read the sticky- Guide to a Proper Warmup, and come up with a good warm-up for him. Do you know his goals? Is he trying to get big, strong or what? Safety First.

he can do some seated overhead pressing.

And there's no telling if the kid's core is weak or anything, that will need to be assessed. But heavy push presses are prolly ill advised nonetheless

How cool would that be if you saw a 12 year old beasting on deadlifts??

Good advice here. I want to add to this that you should try to make his workouts as enjoyable as possible. Being his big brother and doing this with him will probably go a long way in terms of making him enjoy the workout. You have a chance to start your brother out in a healthy and active lifestyle from a young age. That's a great thing.

My brother got me into fitness too. He is six years older than me. He got into it in his last year of high school. He was a skinny ass kid but after only 6 months of training he started to look a lot bigger. He bought a shit load of used weights they were green metal weights (old school) and I can remember helping him paint them (black) in our garage. He made all kinds of crazy things like a homemade pull down system that he could clip weight plates to, a steel bar with two holes drilled in the ends that he wired up to a beam, a wood block thing for calf raises and a flat metal thing that he wore to keep his arms from moving when he did curls (hahaha believe it or not it worked pretty well? He bougth a bunch of books on bodybuilding and powerlifting from the 70's and eighties which I would read cover to cover. When he moved out to go to college I set his stuff up in our garage and started to lift too. He taught me a lot. When he came back from college (he was 15lbs heavier) he said he loved college because they had a gym with tons of machines and he could pig out in the cafeteria. Hahahaha.

is it a good idea to start lifting at that young of an age? muscle lifting is suppose to stunt your growth because it releases testosterone which confuses the body into thinking your older. **at least thats what a teacher once told me**

Tell your teacher that he/she is a fucking idiot. Don't beat around the bush. If you get suspended, tell them to talk to me. I'll set 'em straight.

 "But this guy on the internet named 'CowPimp' said to tell you you're a fucking idiot, and if you had a problem with it to talk to him."

Sorry, I had to  .

Yup. I would be happy to provide my e-mail address so that I can discuss things with him/her personally.

Question 1:
What evidence do you have to support this conclusion? What is your source?

Oh, you heard it somewhere? Wrong answer. Game over. Thanks for playing.
