Are they worthwhile ? I generally tend to use them on the lat pull down.

I do them on dead lifts and curls mostly, they're pretty good.

someone please explain what they are and how i can incorporate them in my workout?
Thanks

When you hold the weight at top position for an extended period of time. I.E. if your doing dead lifts, you hold it when your standing all the way up.

so for bicep curls you hold them when you're all the way at the top?

yes, when you are contracted and flexed.

I like them best for squats. Sittiing in the hole for a 6 count.

That's the hardest one.

Static holds are also an awesome grip exercise if you just stand while holding a loaded barbell.

I do them sometimes when I do deadlifts. I shrug the weight at the top and hold it as long as possible

actually you would hold in the mid-way position when you arms are parallel with the floor

it is basically a method to increase muscle and ligament tensile strength. you would use a load that's maybe 120% of your 1RM in an exercise.

I don't purposely implement them in my workouts, but if I am dieing alot of the time I'll hold at the top and take a breath but more often than not its at the bottom that I do the breathing.

I am going to start them this week though.

so when you do curls with static holds.. how long of a count do you do while it is contracted.
isnt that the same as rest pause.. i know it isnt, but isnt rest pause when you hold your position while it is flexed.

it's not the same as rest pause, where you are utilize all three energy systems and you do not work with loads over your 1RM.

with static holds there is no reason to hold any longer than 20-30 secs.
