Hi guys, I have a question regarding strength & mass. For instance if a person benched 200lb for 6 reps, & on the next chest workout he benched 200lb for 7 reps. So does this mean that in additon to his strength, his muscles also grew or is it just the strength?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Over one workout. There are too many variables to account for.

I am not talking about just one or two workouts. I am talking about long run.
In short, will strength training increase muscle mass in the long run ?

Strength training + eating over maintenace = muscle mass.

duz mass comes wid strength?

It can, but not always. Myofibrilar hypertrophy and increase intracellular energy substrates can account for being able to move more weight and endure lower intensity weights for repeated efforts respectively. Neural adaptations could also explain both of these instances as well, so there is really no way to tell unless you take anthropomorphic measurements.

:hmmm: What are anthropomorphic measurements?

Waist measurement, arm measurement, etc.

I usually do four measurments:

the stomach (at the navel)
the thigh (6" above the knee)
the waist (at it largest part)
the upper arm (arm abducted to 90 degrees, palm facing upward. measure at biggest part)

Cowpimp! my goal is just to increase strength (just like you) right now & thats why I am doing 5-7 reps, & concentrating on deads, bench, chins, squats etc etc. So I was just wondering that it would be sorta bonus for me if I increase my size when training for strength, Is this possible?
Well anyway what are your stats & how much do you bench?

it is possible if you eat enough calories to facilitate growth.

well I am eating like a beast. 6 times a day 45% protein 35% carbs 20% fat blah blah blah..................

does mass comes with strength?

I dont understand why people ask this, if you work out with proper form, diet, exc you will get bigger, to lift more weight you have to get stronger, you cells adapt to this by getting bigger right? Even with Myofibrilar hypertrophy the cell still increases its size a little, right?

So why do ppl recomend 5-6 rep range for strength & 8-12 rep range for size

Because you invoke greater CNS stimulation, and subsequently more neural adaptations as a result of lifting heavier.

I've read that muscles can increase in size to house more ATP/CP stores to be used for maximal effort lifts. This would support that you can gain size while training in low rep ranges for strength.

You can certainly gain some size training really heavy, you just have to get the volume up a bit. Working up to a 1RM probably won't do diddly for size, but doing 4 sets of 4 reps can definitely work for size.

cp you make me fear going to school. i can barely make my way through what you are saying and now im gonna have to learn all that shit.

Most of this stuff I learned outside of school. Anatomy class can be a bitch though, there is a lot of memorization. Thankfully I knew the muscular system pretty well before hand, but the bones, bone markings, cranial nerves, parts of the eye, and various tissues and their cellular makeup are a fucking pain in the ass.

this is off topic but what did/are you taking in school anyways?

Ummmmmm Yes.

Do a search on skeletal muscle hypertrophy and all your questions will be answered.

I was doing network engineering (AKA consulting/designing computer networks), but I switched over to taking classes for exercise science a couple semesters ago.
