I've always dropped bf the wrong way! Everytime I drop I lose a good amount of strength and size. I think to many times I look at the scale way to much. I currently weigh 220lbs (give or take). I have been weight training and working out since I was 12 years old (with weights that is). I figure I need around 2300-2500 calories to cut up. I have always kept my protein high. I have experimented alot and always do something wrong. I eat every 2-3 hours, and plan my meals very well. I have been reading the stickies like crazy. Obviously theres no certain diet that works for one certain person, but is there anything specific that has worked for you guys?

Built's "do it yourself diet" is very effective. It's a carb cycle, and it is outlined in the link in my signature.

Programs from Lyle McDonald like Ultimate Diet 2.0 and Rapid Fat Loss are effective as well.

I don't want to just toss on more stuff, but I've also had good experiences with intermittent fasting.

Are you sure that you're tracking your calories close enough and that you're not undereating? What kind of training are you doing?

Right now my training is pretty much planned over training. But I havent begun a cut yet. I normally do 3-4 days a week. Normally either a push/pull/legs or an upper lower routine. Periodzation is always right on. Obviously I am doing something wrong with tracking calories....

I am kinda confused with the fasting...wouldnt that make me weak and force me to lose lbm?

In short, no. Over time you will take in adequate nutrition, and you would schedule training around periods of time when you are fed.

I'd recommend Eat Stop Eat by Brad Pilon if you are interested in intermittent fasting. The website looks a bit goofy, but I'd recommend checking it out.

Not from my experience. I fasted 2x a week (non-lifting days) which racked up somewhere in the neighborhood of a 4600 calorie deficit. My goal was only 1LB per week, so that gave me 1100 calories to have some fun with. I experienced just about no strength loss minus what happened due to my shoulder/hand injury, but that's just to be expected.

Probably one of my favorite parts about it is that it's just so damn simple. There's no calculations to be done, no worrying about under or overmeasuring something. "Don't eat for 24 hours. Done". I love it. That and I get all of my suffering done in two days so the rest of the time I can relax a little bit and not be concerned about a 2-300 calories here or there (that's what the 'extra' 1100 calorie deficit is for!)

Thanks guys alot of good reads.

So on the other days that your not fasting and you just eating around maintenance?

Heres what I am seeing with this. I know it is very simple, but just seems like there should be a catch.

Alright so here: 2 days of fasting. Thats basically it. So like a Monday then a Thursday? And is water allowed during this time? I searched a while and will continue to do more research on it. I actually just submitted this to a doctor that I work very closely with to see what he thinks about it. This is very intriguing to me.

Drink as much water as you want.

I tried the PSMF and got wonderful results.

Pros: You will lose a ton of fat and keep most muscle.

Cons: You will have sexual fantasies about potatoes.

...Swear to god the first two times I did PSMF I dreamed about eating biscuits. Non-Scouts honor!

Fasting? Holy shit.

Arent you guys dizzy, pissed, and, well, in pain on those days you dont eat?!

If you feel that you need to eat every 3 hours, it's not for you --- it's not for everyone. However, if you are fasting from 7pm-7pm, you are asleep for many of those fasting hours and you just tough out the rest.

For many, that 'roughing out' part isn't as bad as it may be for others and may actually be very comfortable.
