Like BC said, get all the fluids changed.
Not only is this a good time to learn about owning a car but you can also learn how to fix stuff on your own.
There are a few Ford Forums out there that give you tips on what to do.

just pay attention to what the fuck is going on around you,

and dont speed when you see a cop,

its that simple.

if you have to break really hard while a cop can see you, say you thought you were going to hit a little kid or something.

Damn those fucking little kids, always crossing the middle of the highway at the bottom of a large hill, right where the cops sit. Irresponsible parents I say!

And no a radar detector is pretty unnecessary, though I say that even though I still want to buy one. Be aware of your surroundings and don't be a jackass - don't speed through towns by more than 5-7mph, and watch your surrounding on the highway, it's fairly easy to see where they could *possibly* be sitting on the highways, so just don't speed past those spots. It's more important to be aware of the cars behind you cop-wise because that's when you don't notice them.

Oh besides, if you are going fast enough in that beater where you're worried about getting a ticket, getting a ticket would honestly be the least of my worries.

$500 car.... hmmmm..

My stepdaughters mom bought her a $500 truck... and Ford Ranger

1st week - got the new paint job...

2nd week - burned up the clutch...

4th week - U-joint fell out

6th Week - lost the driveline while driving....

moral of the story... you get what you pay for..

I got myself a $350 car to thrash around to save driving my good car, drove it with no coolant, running on three cylinders and a drop of oil. Car got defected and still made it to the wreckers after months of abuse.

On a side note - I have crashed three cars valued $12-35k more than once each, but the three cars I have had valued $350-850 I never once crashed and I drove them as hard as they could go.

Yeah ... I'm commenting on this thread of yours danny under the presumption that you are gonna do this the right way. Drivers license, insurance ... and so on. You are going to do that right?
