lets say im trying to lose fat on a ~1800 cal diet. if 50 cals of a 300cal meal is sugar how does that effect the nutrition the body is getting ?

what about tea with sugar at night(approx 25 -50 cal per glass) , will it turn to fat ?

No diet should include sugar PERIOD! If you want to sweeten your tea, have it with honey or stevia.

Simple carbs (sugar) will temporarily increase the levels of insulin in your body. Insulin, simply speaking, will lead to more energy than normal being stored as fat. Like Jodi said, stick with honey or Splenda.

use splenda if necessary. I use a tsp of it when doing oats with fresh fruit or frozen fruit nuked. trust me, the last thing you want is fast absorbing sugar in your cut. Be careful though honey is only useful after a workout. And tea @ night? WHY? how about some cottage cheese or some casein?

The liquid stevia is good, the packets suck.

The only time you should consider eating sugar on purpose is immediately postworkout. Ween yourself off of it. You can sprinle cinnamon on your oats or just eat the stuff plain. Force yourself to do it for a while, eventually you may not miss the sugar so much.

Not true. Not all sugars spike insulin. eg: fructose has little effect on insulin. So apples don't really increase insulin that much at all.

Also - whey spikes insulin - and you don't hear anyone bitching about how you shouldn't drink whey when you are dieting cause it might 'increase fat stores'.

Sugar is not 'the enemy' in fat loss - excess calories/unbalanced diet and lack of exercise is.

You should never eat white suger. EVER! But if you must have a sweetener use honey, or brown sugar, preferably honey.
