targeting abs??

when i do planks my shoulders give out before my abs. is this weird? am i doing something wrong? also where should i put the weight on? lower back or upper back?

finally when doing russian twists is doing thm on the ground with you rfeet under something jsut as good as doing them off of a incline bench?
 
That's weird to me. My shoulders never bother me when doing planks. It's my damn stomach that starts to feel like jello.
 
take the weight off and do them, the weight could be the reason your shoulders are giving out..are you parallel with the floor when you do them? when I do them I try to be parallel with the floor
