Age 43 and have been feeling sluggish during my workouts and the recovery after my workouts makes me want to rest more. Libo is lower that past years and I brought all this up to my Dr. So he tested me for Testosterone and here are my results.

873 Testosterone , Total

Testos, total 408 NG/DL

While talking to my Dr I was really hoping to get put on TRT, but he didn't seem to think it was an option. Now that I have the results, I can't tell for sure what number to use. Am I 873 or 408?
If it is 408 is that low enough to consider TRT?

course you wont be put on trt at those levels bro..

also what is the range for both of thoes tests

my total test was about 350 and I got put on TRT. In the 800's is fan*fucking*tastic... At least to my small mind. If you were to do any self-medicated TRT than what would be your weekly mg? What would it have to be to surpass your already impressive level anyway? I'm not sure you need TRT, maybe just a cycle?
I have no help for you though, sorry...

Diet, stress, rest all play a roll in this, did you have a major stress event in your life, new job, divorce, new kid, etc?
what was your free T? Perhaps you need an AI to combat the estrogen. Your total T levels are what most guys shoot for when on TRT...

I have been running 5 days a week about 2 miles per session since last june. then added lifting back in October.

one other thing about my blood work is I was taking ce2 & no2 about 2 weeks prior to the test.

I have have some bloodwork that was done about 15 months ago. I wasn't doing anything back then. I will need to look at it and compare.

Could be over trained man. That's a lot at your age if your work capacity isn't high.

I do computer work for a living so if it wasn't for my workouts I would get fat. I am trying to research the AI option if that is the issue. Not sure what AI is yet. lol

So do I. But two days of crossfit, combined with BJJ wrecked me at my current age. And I use to be able to drink all night, do two hrs of PT in the morning and then lift hardcore in the evenings.

My test was 189 on a scale of 350-1100 when I got put on HRT.

You are fine!

So what am I missing here. If my test lvl is high, what can I do to get more out of my workouts? Maybe a cycle is in order. I have never done one before.

Get your diet dialed in more go from where.. With your test levels that why why mess with it.. Shoot when I was 20 my test was only 680

Those are good levels. Not sure a cycle will be your fix being that you don't have low T levels. I'd look into other areas. Thyroid, perhaps?

Lost griz, I'm asking again because its important. What is your free T level and yourE2?

I still think you are over training. 43 ain't young, no matter what you think. And just becuase you could do something at 35 doesn't mean you can still do it 8 yrs later. And its probably your CNS...which a cycle wouldn't do jack for. I have a feeling your a type A and thinks he can do the same level of training he did in his mid 30s.
You were fine running right? And then you added lifting? And then you started having issues? Still sounds like your over training.

I would get your thyroid checked. I have the same issues. Have been on and off thyroid meds for years and they dont really seem to help so I assumed my T levels were low. Had them checked a few weeks ago and they came back at 691 ng/dl (age 34). Was hoping that was the case as Im sick of endo's - have been through 4 in 4 years with no real help. Most endos will only look at TSH - still trying to find one that will look at TBG and/or TRH.

In any case, low thyroid symptoms are similar to low T.

I have an over active thyroid. It sucks. I have to consume a massive amount of calories just to maintain. Bulking is tough b/c my body burns thru food so fast. I stopped lifting for six months and lost almost all my muscle I built over many years.

I made a mistake when I posted the following:

873 Testosterone , Total <-- This was just the title and test code not the score

Testos, total 408 NG/DL <-- This is my score of 408

So with a score of 408 I know that is not super low, but I would like to get a Dr to help me reach 800-1000 if they would be willing.

Doh!

See my post on the AI subject in this forum. I'm on TRT - find an endocrinologist that is up to speed on the healthy effects of TRT. Most will be happy to keep you in the 'old guy' range. Don't buy it, move on to the next.

43 is not old! He is not over training-that makes no sense. The older you get the more you need to work out to get the same results.

I am 41 run 5 miles every three days and work out an hour and a half six days a week. It is called staying in shape!

Yeah our bodys are very resilient no matter the age u will adapt with in reason ..

Total serum T is not as important as Free T and Weakly Bound T level. You could be aromatizing T into estrogen.
So you need to know estradiol (E2) levels too...and SHGB.
