I was wondering, what is the best protein powder to buy?? A powder that's worth the cost....

you need at least 2 types. straight whey protein for post workout. and a blended variety for any other time of the day.

Another question... Is it best to drink the protein shake before, in the middle, or after your workout??? In the mag's I've seen where it will say after your workout you'll get more gains, than I've seen where it will say before your workout you'll get better gains. Normally, I'll do 2 sets, then intake my protein & after that go back and finish my last set up.

You need protein going through your body throughout the day, so you need to figure when is best. It takes time to break down, so you need it before as well.

Oooooooooohhh...tut tut Lam.

Whey is good post workout. Real food any other time - unless real food is not an option at the time.

(Just stressing that real first should always be the first choice.:))

OK here's a dumb question, what do you consider a "blended" protein? I did not realize that there was a difference.

As in more than one type of protein together. eg whey isolate, whey concentrate, casein, albumin.

There's several combinations available, all promoting amazing gains in size and strength etc...

Question about TCD's posts. Does anyone else have the problem with his posts running off the right side of the screen?

Rob_Nc, it may be your resolution?

What resolution are you running? Most websites now suck for anyone 800x600 or lower.

hydrolyzed casein/ amino acid tablets for pre-workout
whey for post-workout
casein/egg protein for the night

Of course you need different amounts of carbs etc. but that's another story....

Proteinfactory.com

You can design your own ratios or get them premade. Have questions? Call their 1-800# and ask for Alex...great guy.

 I think you mean call Fitsavers right??

LOL

Don't get me wrong man. You can get to just about any brand through FS at pretty good prices, but I'm talking custom powders. Just depends on what your needs are.

LAM (or anyone), why is this? I haven't actually heard this before.

Straight whey protein is metabolized to quickly, as up to 70% can be lost due to oxidation. that is why it is very suitable for use directly after training and a poor source of protein any other time.

Blended varieties are modulated at different rates, which give a slower, longer lasting supply of AA's to the blood. The differences in amino acid profiles from different protein sources also complement each other to provide a better nutritional environment for muscular growth.

is Designer Whey good??

I always remember Designer as being expensive per gram, maybe that is not true any longer. I've also heard it tastes like cow dung, but who knows.

Just wanna say that that high rate of oxidisation by the liver is when you take whey alone.

By taking fat and/or carbs with the stuff the rate of oxidisation is lower.

Hmm, I'm intaking it always with food, and actually mixing it with non-fat milk. I'm actually trying to read up on it now, whey is pretty new to me (just 6 or so years ago, everything was egg, or nasty-tasting soy), which was back when Whey was a new and expensive protein.

If you are taking your whey before bed, you can also add some flax oil to slow down the digestion, or add is to some lowfat milk.

even with fat and carbs, whey is still quite a poor choice of protein before bed - unless you're only planning to sleep for a couple of hours.

I've been eating steak and veg recently. Or tuna and walnut oil.

Which other brands than Designer can you people recommend? Must be Whey protein though

I'm using WheyFit, vanilla/choc tastes great. I have a feeling you wont find it, I spent $29 for a 5 gallon jug, ordered 4 of them and since its not an all day protein, its going to last me along time :)

Now I have to find a mix though on top of this, crap. If interested send me a PM/email.

Some of the better Wheys for post workout nutrition...Designer, Cytodyne, Nature's Best, Optimum, Muscle Tech, AST, Sportpharma, Labrada.

Some of the best blends for other times of day...Muscle Link, Dorian, Met RX, Biotest.
