TCD...the only component that I've seen in a study that's proven to slow down the modulation of straight whey is a fiber supp like Fibersol II.

Modulation is an interesting word to use.

You did realise i was just saying that the rate of oxidisation by the liver is lower when taken with carbs because it has less need to convert protein to glucose because the carbs are already there. fat also slows digestion so the rate of oxidisation is lowered.

TCD..yes, I knew that you were aware of that....:)

True. That's why I said, "if". Salmon is probably my preference before bed. If I do happen to take whey before bed, I also drink enough water before bed to force me to get up in the middle of the night and use the restroom. Then that gives me a chance to get another shake in.

Muscle Techs protein is the good. Something with a digestive enzyme for better absorbtion is good also. I have friends that think Muscle - TECH protein is the sh!t .

Best Whey: Muscle Provider-Beverly & Ultra Whey-PRD , Best Blend: Ultra Size.-Beverly Hands Down the best i've used.

Good god, 30 pound bag for $149, milk and egg protein. That thing is a feedbag indeed!

Ok folks, a word of warning - at least in the 30 pound bag there is no way this stuff is flavored, which is fine I suppose. Ultimately I still swear that flavored or not, soy is the worst tasting ____ I've ever had, this one is pretty easily mixed (flavorized) with whey.

Been meaning to ask this; what about adding whey to a meal replacement shake (later in the day, after working out in the morning)?

Mixed, would this still be absorbed too quickly to bother with it?

CED_2583...that is AOK...

I use Extreme Labs lean protein. It's a powder with 44 gm Protein, 2 grams fat and I want to say about 4 carbs. Pretty good tasting.

I really like Whey Matrix from ISS research. It has a good ammount of protien from Whey, and it also has a bunch of BCAA's blended into it.

I dont think Ive ever heard of drinking protein shakes between sets to be beneficial. Your better off just drinking it post workout.

Some of the best blends for other times of day...Muscle Link, Dorian, Met RX, Biotest.

I've been meaning to try and check out Dorian's brand. I haven't really heard much about it? Anyone know? Is it effective AND yummy?

I believe GP approved the brand, but taste I have no idea.

Muscle Milk is by far the best tasting I have ever used.

OK, I've read this entire thread and am still a little confused.

Can someone detail exactly when their take their protein and what type it is. I want to get on a schedule and make sure the the protien I am taking in the the appropriate kind. Thanks

Get your protein every 2.5-3.5 hours, whey would not be prefered for most of the day as its quickly absorbed, so real food can help with this (chicken, turkey, beef, eggs, whatever).

Mudge answered this above. Eat real food as much as possible with the exception of pre and post workout. Within 30 minutes before and after training utilize whey protein. At all other times utilize food sources or a casein based protein powder.

Dorians is one of the finest formulations available. Great protein sources, added glut PEPTIDES, and pre/probiotics.

I also enjoy the flavor. It is very rich and smooth.

GP do any of the proteins you mentioned mix in a shaker bottle? I can't break out a blender at work!

Most pure whey proteins will mix in a shaker bottle. Generally the MRPs don't mix well without a blender. However, Musclemeals by Musclelink and Cytoplex by Cytodyne are both pretty thin and should mix decently by shaking.
