Ok I know in order to see or expose a certain muscle you need to lose the fat covering it. I also know there is no such thing as target fat loss. Seeing as I carry almost all of my fat in my gut, I've deamed abdominal work a pointless venture at this point.

My reasoning is that developing abs behind the fat will only push it outward, and making what little progress I do make look non-existent.

Am I even on the right track here, or am I hitting the crack pipe???? I know its a newb question with bad rationale, just trying to figure a few things out here while I regroup my program.

If you want a six pack you need to get into the kitchen and eat a healthy diet, and that is 95% of the battle.......

Well, if you are on a cal deficit I doubt you will see hypertrophy in any area.

I don't think you'll be able to put on that much mass onto your abs to make your stomach obviously protrude. Besides if that does hypothetically happen, it will cause the fat to stick in the shape of the 6-pack.

Ab and core training is also far from pointless for totally non-aesthetic reasons.

Exactly. Ab and core work will help in most all of the compound lifts that you should be concentrating on. I wouldnt necessarily concentrate on just abs though and look at more well rounded core moves such as planks.

when i started losing wiehgt for the first time i had a bigger tummy too. I still worked my abs though...and im glad i did. when i leaned out, my abs were defined and i looked more proportioned.
I just did a little bit a day and it tighten all my loose skin right up
