I watched this documentary yesterday, have to admit I found it more entertaining than informative.

I felt it was definitely intended to discourage people about considering anabolic steriod and created a scare campaign around them.

I also noted limited references to scientific research to back up claims made. I also was confused with the focus on Greg Valentino claiming his arms were attributed to Test Prop and EQ, there is a huge synthol debate around that.

For anyone that has seen the documentary, I am particularly interested in any comments/opinions on what Steve Michalik had to say about steriod usage. He basically said that even one short cycle will catch up with the user long term and provoke any existing cancer, tumour etc. he basically said his heart problems and stroke were due to his AS usage.

One of his comments went something like "Steriods start rusting you on the inside"...

I saw that piece of crap. That was the most retarded docu-bullshit-ry I have ever seen. First of all, Valintino was shooting synthenol, and he is a psychotic bastard in the first place. The facts were being skewed, and the tone of it was very biased.

I think part of the problem with all the media that came out of that event was that Valentino never admitted that he was using synthol (only admitting to steroid use, for which he was also in prison for). The media doesn't even know what synthol is....so, ofcourse they just jump on the only thing they know, which is steroids.

Valentino is a moron.

Steve had a message at his gym that said something along the lines of, "todays message is up the doseage!"

People like that, and who competed back in the days when who knows what his diet or medical monitoring were like, could likely develop such issues in his older years. I had a friend who had several heart attacks and strokes who is still living, he was a heavy steroid user as a powerlifter in the 80s.

In that show I saw that young guy who wanted to do steroids to grow, he looked real young.. I got tummors in my liver for using dbol... that is one of the side effects of orals 17aa.. Thank God they have been shrinking and I was on cycle of test and the doc told me that it was the oral steroid and that injectable test is uncommon to cause this type of lessions in the liver, it's called focal nodular hyperplasia. just one thought for you guys be very careful with the orals I would stick to injectables if I were you based on my experience.

A quote from the documetary mentioned that after Steve had his stroke and other issues he wound up with the testosterone levels of a 12 year old girl.

I have to say Steve put in a very convincing performance about the sides of AAS. I am now thinking about the test cycle I did 12 years ago.

It would be good to see some more research done on the longer term side affects of AAS usage.

Many guys have been using exogeneous Testosterone for 50 years--in much smaller doses than competitive bodybuilders--and are just fine.

As long as its done safely, i was under the impression that the only risk is cholesterol increases (LDL)

That guy was actually the only one that scared me. And yes I remember that quote he said too.

Glad I was not the only one.

I guess I concur with the views of the experienced guys in this forum in that if done responsibly AAS SHOULD not cause or induce any problems 10,20,30 years down the track.

You can only really go by people who have taken them and are now in their 50's etc and look at their health situation.

I think it's the same as anything, its fate and the luck of the draw. I understand there are things that one can do to avoid problems related to AAS use, most of which is just common sense, but if your destined to keel over at 60, that's just how it is. Its the same as the folks we know who live into their 90's and they've smoked and drunk their whole lives and then to the poor souls who fall victim to cancers etc at an early age although never, drinking, smoking, abusing drugs etc and who are usually healthy beforehand. By all means, do your best to look after yourselves (look at family health history rather than surveys etc), but it's all down to chance IMO as we simply can't account for everything.
