Yeah, I was Pre-BUDs while at A-School, running 5 miles a day, could do push-ups, chin-ups. leg raises, etc all day, was swimming 1/2 mile a day, plus lifting weights. I was in the best shape a person could be. Being that it was winter in the Great Lakes I got walking pneumonia and was ordered to stop training until I recovered. By the time I was back in top shape I was at my new command and they were hurting for radiomen, especially ones like me who graduated top of his class and was able to learn every comm system as well as guys who had been in 12 years so I decided to tough it out and maybe try for BUDs after my time at the first command was over. Glad I did because I got to go to amazing places while on deployment like Australia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, Thailand, Hong Kong and South Korea oh and also where I live now Hawaii....
But life has a way of setting us on totally different paths, right towards the end of my time on my ship my step-father was murdered. It devastated my mother so much she became suicidal and no one was willing to stay with her so I talked my chaplain into getting me a hardship discharge, but while wading through the bureaucratic red tape my mother got better and I was left with a choice re-enlist or not. Well while waiting for my ship to get back I met my woman and decided I'd served long enough and I should now go to college.....
