Don't get me wrong. I love Fitday. I use it every day. I'd be lost without it. However, there are some things I'm starting to get annoyed with, and they're features that I know would not be THAT difficult to add to a web-based application.

In no particular order:

  • Separation of a day's food by meals, so that you could see the macro ratios of each meal separately
  • The ability to add foods (namely your fibrous veggies) without quantities and having NO VALUES show up, just to have them on there to see your complete meals (for anal people like me).
  • The ability to save a common combination of foods as a meal, say my breakfast -- eggs and oatmeal usually -- so that it becomes a 1-step process to add my meals.
  • As PreMier and BritChick were discussing, the ability to duplicate meals or entire days to other days, without having to go through the selection process again.
What else?

Also, does anyone use something other than fitday, which offers any such features as the ones on my wishlist above?

PS: Oh yeah and they could really stand to make a Mac version of their software, dammit. :)

Oh i know it wouldn't come for free. That word is blasphemous to them! :( But honestly, I think I'd pay for it. It would cost less and be faster than if I built my own app.

Why not build an Excell Macro for one?

You could use one sheet as a data base for all your usual foods, and one sheet for calculations

If you eat the same stuff usually, it shouldn't be TOO bad entering all the nutr'n data. And you could easily break the marcos up into meals!

I think I just might do that actually

 I dont use fitday. Before i discovered this site and fitday, i worked out my daily cals calc on a excel sheet, meal wise. It also has as daily totals and a grid telling me how much protein and carbs per pound the diet consists of with reference to my present weight as well as how many total cals i need to aim for(15-10x on a cut or 15-20x on a bulk). All i have to do is put in the food names and cals+macros and all totals get calculated.

I had an excel sheet too, but it was becoming too tedious and sometimes I'd accidentally erase a cell that had a formula (because i'm not very good with excel to begin with, i should point that out). And I could build out my own in painstaking detail with every feature I want, but it would take me forever to get it just right, and i'm such a perfectionist that it would be an ongoing project -- the last thing I need in my life right now. hahahaha!

I think you can lock cells to prevent that.

I know what you mean about ongoing project. I too kept endlessly tinkering with it. I did that for quite a while with the excel sheet. But eventually i stopped as it began to serve its purpouse. In my case, most of my meals are standard so i dont have to recalc it regularly. I also kept it simple and kept the food items generic. e.g. rice+chicken+veggies+apple. I dont specify what type of chicken or veggies, so they could be boiled, baked, curry or grilled! the cals do come out more or less where i want them. But fitday does make it a more accutate as they recalc the macros based on the dish.

Seriously, if i had a PC, this thread would not have been posted. The PC version has most of the features I want, it seems.

Yeah, see? I got too specific with mine. It became such a hassle. :(

Another thing.. I wish some of the foods they listed would be listed in common measurements.. I tried looking up turkey, and all I could get was a lb! and some foods you can't find...and some of the foods are too complicated to know what your looking for.. like Bottom Round steak... it's got like 200 options! lol.. like prime or choice... trimmed to how much fat... YIKES! i'm always guessing, i'm so anal, i'll pretty much only eat the foods I can type in by hand!

I've used Fitday for four years and I have to say that I think it's a great website! I'm still amazed that it's free! I actually bought the version they sell for downloading and it has a few more features.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
Btw GG, why don't you email your suggestions to Fitday :)

Believe me, i LOVE the site, and I can't believe it's free either. I'm just sore that I can't get software for the mac... so if they were to offer a premium web version with the software's advanced features and such, with a one-time fee of $19.95 like the software, I'd gladly pay for it.

Heh, i am planning on it, just using this thread to gather as many suggestions as possible first. In case anyone else has any ideas. Blah. i shoulda mentioned that on the first post. THat was the intention...

I wish Fitday would link to fitday PC. So when i add crap at work I can have it downloaded to my Fitday PC. Main reason why I won't buy Fitday PC.

I wish you're previous meals stayed previous longer... i hate searching crap up again.

Why don't you get a windows emulator program to convert it to Mac. My sister is a MAC freak and I asked her and she said that she has that program to convert PC to Mac. Hope this helps!! :thumb:

I would like to see FitDay modify the macros of chocolate so that I can incorporate some into my pre-contest diet.

The only program i know of is Virtual PC and it runs slow as hell... unless you are a web designer or developer using a mac and need to see waht it will look like on a pc.

:(

I use a program for mac called diet sleuth, its at www.blackcatsoftware.com, works well for me. And has all the features, at least most that you were asking for.

Hi G.G.

Great ideas you have to improve Fit Day. What I do when I have a meal that I always eat, and don't want to re-do all the food in it every time is go to an empty day...like the next day, list the foods, say with my 'protein pancakes',
that include the eggs, pp, cc,oats, then I add all the micros up and install them under a custom food, called 'protein pancakes', that way I don't have to list all the stuff every time. Just custom your eggs and oats that way, when you decide to add or change some ingredient then you can edit your custom food...hope that helps.

Tricia
