Thoughts on this weight gainer shake

Just eat more food.....oats, sweet potatos, Yams, brown rice ect....
Weight gainer is one of the worst supplements on the market IMO

Thats my problem.. I just can't right now.. I dont have the time really, or the resources..

Weight gainer is more expensive than real food so the resources you do have.......and if you don't have 15 minutes to prepair your food then you really need a time management class.

Time?? Hmmm... How long does it take to eat a handful of nuts? Or to boil up some eggs? Or to drink a glass of milk?

Resources wise - real food is cheaper. Rice is super cheap, as is milk. Beans are REALLY cheap... Tuna - cheap... Eggs - cheap... The list is endless.

I don't have a kitchen though.. that's the main problem.. and going shopping for some of this stuff would be inconvienent..

Are these shakes really unhealthy?

Who needs a kitchen. Long life skim milk can be stored in a cupboard. So can bags of oats, bags of nuts, cans of tuna, cans of legumes...

If you have access to a microwave then you can easily cook rice, potatos, pasta....

Are these shakes really unhealthy?
Ingredients: (note that how they are written are in order of content level)...
Maltodextrin,
Whey Protein Concentrate,
Milk Protein Concentrate,
Fructose,
Egg Albumen,
Natural & Artifical Flavors,
Acesulfame Potassium,
Sucralose, Lecithin.

Amount Per Serving:
Calories: 690
Calories from Fat: 40
Total Fat: 4g
Saturated Fat: 2.5g
Cholesterol: 90mg
Sodium: 240mg
Total Carbohydrate: 103g
Dietary Fiber: 0g
Sugars: 15g
Protein: 60g

What is that going to give you except a lot of empty crappy sources of carbs with wayyy too much protein for a serving size?

Save your money, just get a way powder and try something like:
1 cup oats
1 cup skim milk
1 large banana
1 scoop whey
1 tbs peanut butter
Totals: ~720 cals, ~100g carbs, ~47g protein, ~16g fat

That gives you calories, carbs and protein plus a plethora of other things like vitamins, minerals, fibre, water, phytonutrients, healthy fats etc etc...

Air...listen to Emma - she's wise beyond her years. She knows what's she's talking about.

Let me guess - you live in a dorm? Been there. Done that. As Emma pointed out there are many things you can do w/o a kitchen. I was in the same boat when I was in college. I was allowed to bring in one of those really small refrigerators and a microwave (You the the kind you can get from Wal-Mart or Target) in my room.

What about eating in the dining hall? In most cases, there's always something decently healthy in those places. (e.g. grilled chicken breast, fish, salad bar, etc)

I eat at the dining hall 3-4 times a day.. but i can't go 5 times a day, lol. I have a fridge and microwave combo.. She did bring up some good points about mixing stuff with whey .. would this require a blender(which i don't have).. Anyone have a good whey protein i could order online for really cheap??

Thanks for all the ideas.. I just need calories BAD.

Dude...go to Wal-Mart and get a blender - they aren't that expensive. Certainly a lot less than those expensive weight gainers you were thinking about purchasing. You have a fridge/microwave. All you need is a blender and you'll be set.

As for good brands of Whey, I use Optimum Nutrition (ON) Whey - many people like it.

If convenience is the issue and not money the go with this product http://www.bulknutrition.com/?products_id=433

Better company, better reputation etc.....

Everyone will tell you real food is better and I agree, but I also understand that it's not always convenient and trust me, these products are still better than fast food or any other junk so go with weightgainer instead.

Think i'm opting towards the more natural route..

Hydrolyzed Beef Plasma

yuckkkk

A blender is not ESSENTIAL - you can mix all those things in a bowl and eat it as a solid meal if you want!

Or, if you want something easily portable, just take a shaker with dry oats, dry skim milk powder, whey powder, linseed meal and a banana as well. Then just add some water and shake. You can either eat it with a spoon or just drink it - may be a little 'chunky' but it is still good! ;)

If you SERIOUSLY need calories then carry a baggie with beef or chicken jerky, dried fruits (or a natural/healthy museli) and dried nuts... Then snack on this during the day too...

It is really not too hard to think of 'real food' meals - you just have to be bothered!
