Due to a change in working hours I will have to go to the gym at 7am, I normally train between 1-2pm, should I expect the amount of weight that I normally lift to decrease? Also should I have breakfast or work out on a empty stomach and have 50g protein/simple carbs shake after I finish my W/O at 7:45am? Thanks

Definitely try to get in some simple carbs and/or protein shake before you go to the gym or you'll have no energy to lift. Same thing happened to me when my work schedule changed and I ate a light breakfast before lifitng then ate again before I had to go to work.

thanks will try just find it really hard to eat that early in the morning :(

I agree. I usually can only get down a protein shake and an orange first thing in the morning. Let me know how it works out. I pondered working out early. Probably won't be as many people there, should be nice. Slap the head phones on and listen to some Howard Stern.

I down some milk, protein and oats before I work out in the early morning.

It is nice, I get in the gym at 6:00 AM and its always empty. I get to use all the weights, machines and shower and change in an empty lockerroom.

Thanks guys I ground up some oats today (in my blender) and added to skimmed milk and 50g whey protien and didnt taste too bad guess i will try this :lick:

I dont think you will feel any difference in the amount you can lift. Just as long as you get a full night of rest. I feel pretty energized in the morning after getting 8 hours of sleep, although some people can't get that much sleep in because of busy schedules. Good luck.

I just went back to training at 5am :) It's great. I don't have to share the equipment and nobody stops to talk.

I love it. Just get your sleep and you should be good.
Another bonus to training in the mourning is that you get the whole day to yourself.

I workout at 0500, so I get up at 04:30 to chug down a protein shake and have about a half an hour to digest.

You shouldn't add any fat to your first meal as it slows down the digestion process. The sooner you get the nutrients in your body, the better. Try and put down some dextrose, it doesn't need to be converted in the liver so it goes straight to the blood stream.

Your body has been fasting (for however long you've been asleep) and is in a very energy depleted and catabolic state. It needs all the nutrients it can get as fast as it can get them.

i could never lift that early in the morning, i am definetly not a morning person

SLEEP is my top priority but getting up for school at 6 am sucks. I am half asleep all day

As long as you are awake you should do ok. I used to train at 7AM and I was awake I think at 5:45 or so to make that happen. That was some years ago though, nowdays the earliest I might possibly train is around 8AM on a sunday, which is not my favorite.

Whenever you feel awake and ready to roll is fine.

When i have basketball games early in the morning i usually just drink a energy drink and go running for a lil bit to get my blood flowing, it helps me wake up and get in the mood.

Thanks for all the advice, starting my 7am workouts on Monday :thumb: My diet has been totally shit all week too little of carbs/protein and too much fat! Despite this my strength has gone up :hmmm: will get back on track next week!

Agree. I work out at night during the week and then at 8AM on weekends. My weekend workouts are usually better because I am rested when I get to the gym rather than going after a full day of work.

Mine does too during the week. By 6:00, you can't get on a cardio machine.

Oddly, I am much stronger in the mornings. I get in at 5am and love it. No one chit chats w/me. In the evenings, there's always some guy in there staring at my boobs and wanting to talk even though I have my headphones on. :pissed: I have a protein shake and and sometimes a piece of toast w/butter on it before I go.

I used to start at 5:30am every morning--loved it, empty gym. Now I go at 7-7:15, which is actually a pretty busy time. Then I go back for more cardio at 4:15. PACKED at that time.

I find going that early crazy. I am never awake enough or have the energy to work out after I wake up. I usually go around 7:30 PM.

It's not that bad, I just go to bed earlier.I don't really watch TV anymore so I have no other reason to stay up late anyway.....well sex is the exception

I'll be halfway done with my workout at 6am tomorrow.
