hey guys,

so my sport season has finished and i want to start training for a 10k(thought this would be a good distance to start me off) im currently doing a full body 3x per week (mon, wed, fri)

but im going to start on this 10k programme, the first week is as follows: with the milage increasing progressivly over the 8 weeks

mon- rest
tues- 2 miles (easy)
wed- 3 miles
thurs- rest
fri- 2 miles
sat- 3 miles
sunday 3.25

i really love weightlifting so dont want to stop, do you think a full body on the off days would be good, or maybe some sort of split with weightlifting in the am and running in the pm??

any help much appreciated

what is the intensity of your lifting days (sets, reps, RM zones)? What is the intensity of those runs (intervals, tempo runs, straight 2 mile jogs, etc)?

When is the race? How much time do you have to prepare?

I wouldn't put the lifting on the off days. Off days are OFF! Training days are for training. Either run in the AM and lift in the PM, or run first and lift second.

I am no expert but I do remember a while ago when I was asking a similar question Built told me to never do cardio before I lift

You are comparing apples and oranges.

This poster is focusing on running. Not aesthetics or strength.

as iain said...goals!

Aesthetics.....lift then cardio.

offseason athletes in a general prep phase....lift then metabolic work.

inseason athletes in the competitive phase or athletes in the pre-competition phase.....sports specific preparation (running if you are a distance person. speed, agility, quickness if you are a person in a change of direction sport) then lift.

Lifting is the assistance stuff for your sport.

In bodybuilding, powerlifting, olympic lifting, etc....lifting IS your sport.

big difference.

Iain....I just passed my upper extremity ART cert. ;)
