Alright, I know the triceps has three heads: the long head, the lateral head and the medial head. Which excercises place greater stress on which heads?

Any overhand grip pressdown places greater stress on the lateral head, while dips place more stress on the medial head. Reverse grip pressdowns also shift the focus to the medial (inner) head.

i actually have a different tricep question. I have bad tendinitis in my left elbow so I can't really do any type of pressdowns or overhead extensions that are pain free, so I don't do them.

Can I build up my tris by just using compound exercises like close grip benches and dips? Will these pressing exercises for the tris be enough to give me well developed tris in my given situation? It's not perfect, but will it be enough or will I always appear lacking since I can't do any of the other exercises?

Some guys ONLY do dips and close grip bench for triceps....and don't think pressdowns are worthwhile at all. Just be sure you're using correct form for dips and close-grip so that the focus is on the tris and not the chest. Don't lock-out on dips...keep elbows tucked in, and dont lean forward. With close-grip, keep your elbows in again, as well.

y thnk u sir. and dont movements where ur elbows are up by ur head put more stress on the long head?

Precisely.

Yes, close grip benches and dips done leaning backwards. My fave for dips is bench dips, gives me a better burn. These should give you good tri workouts without stressing your elbows, assuming you've warmed up first.

Yeah!! I love bench dips. I usually do either dips, skullcrushers, or close grip benchpress for my first excercise and then later go on to do a dumbbell movement like kickbacks or dumbbell extensions (1 arm or 2 arm). Then for my finishing move i like to do some form of a triceps pressdown. My favourite to end a workout is drop-sets of 1 arm reverse grip cable extensions. I usually do just one set of that and drop the weight three times. Burns like hell and gives the most unbelieveable pump. It's awesome with a rope too.

Anyone up for supersets of 2 triceps exercises of choice?

Once I was doing bench dips without weight just to warm up. some guy walked by and said "I used to do that but with weights on my lap."

what the fuck do you say to that? want a cookie?

I hate when people I don't know talk to me in the gym. Maybe I should get some earphones.

thats what i do now. i hate it when people bug u when ur trying to workout. sooooo annoying. and it's usually for completely irrelavent things too, nothing to do with working out.
