What is the most effective way to find out how many calories i need a day?
What formula should i use that is more accurate then others? i weigh about 174 pounds and i am 6'0

Really hard to tell. There are alot of factors that determine your metabolic rate ie Activity level and body type.

Depends on what you want? start at 15-17 cals/lb of BW and monitor and adjust cal totals depending on the results you are getting from the mirror, clothes, measurements.

There is no really accurate way... Formula that take into account your lean mass (eg: do not just base it on your total weight) are sometimes mroe accurate - as are those that take into account your activity...

As a rough starting figure there are many formula that people use...
eg:
1/ weight (kg) x 24 x activity factor

2/ weight (lbs) x 15

3/ [lean weight (kg) x 21 + 300] x activity factor

But the easiest thing to do is to simply start at a non-stupid amount (say, for someone your weight, something around 2600 cals) and monitor yourself in the mirror... If you start to lose weight, increase calories if you start to gain weight, decrease calories.
