Trying to get my weight back

I am a 51 year old guy. I also have AIDS. 2 months ago I weighed 167 lbs. I became ill about a month ago and went into the hospital. It got pretty bad and I was in the ICU for a week and in a regular room for a week. So 2 weeks in the hospital. I now weigh 137 lbs and at 6' I look like a skeleton. I started back a the gym last Friday. My doctor has me on 400mg of test cypionate once a week and 30 mg of anavar daily. I am also taking 50 grams of protein, drinking 3 ensures a day and putting 2 tablespoons of olive oil in every shake for the calories. I figure my calorie intake at about 3000. I know I have to go slow but if anyone has any feedback or suggestions that they think might help me get back to where I was I would truly appreciate it. Thanx.
 
Given that you have a serious illness,
I would consider concentrating on eating
the best foods possible and moderate
amounts of exercise -- particularly
cardiovascular work.

Have you ever heard of the Paleo type diets?
It has been called a caveman diet too. I've
always thought these are excellent. The WAPF
has many similar ideas as well.

oh man. my heart goes out to you man. never met a person with aids. hell, if i had aids, gaining muscle would be the last thing on my mind. i got mad respect for you sir.

& about your current situation, like sosc mentioned. I would concentrate on eating VERY healthy taking in as MUCH beneficial nutrients you can for your body. & focus on compound lifts such as the squat, deadlift, bench, military press, rows, etc adding 2.5-5lbs or a few extra reps every workout. Because as you already know by now, if your getting stronger your getting bigger.

& in conclusion sleep lots, train HARD, & eat big but healthy. drink gallons of water a day & maybe up your protein intake to atleast 1 gram per lb so a total of 131 grams per day. & your calories are great. 3000 cals is PLENTY to make a man your size grow very quick. anyways i hope you do good. & if you need any help just hit me up with a private message or something. i'd be glad to help
 
Yeah man sorry for the situation. As has already been said make sure you continue to eat enough (CLEAN) foods. Id say up the protein even more and lift but keep it light for now.

Also very sorry for your situation... If you are able to eat anything (i.e. no digestion issues or sensitivities), I'd go for real quality real food. Ensure is an easy way to get some protein in, but 50 g isn't enough. Like mentioned above - if you can get it > 100 g /day, you're giving your body something to build muscle with. What about carbs? Unless you're following a ketogenic diet, you need carbs to fuel the growth.
 
Question, you said your doc put you on 400mg test cyp ONCE a week? Or is that the total for the whole week? Seems weird and counter productive for stable blood levels to only pin once a week. Most of us like to pin cyp twice a week (in your case 200mg each pin). But maybe with your situation it's different, hopefully someone chimes in that can direct you better on that note.
