This is to let you all know that I'm in my 50's and just started lifting weights again. Being an ex weight lifter approx. 20 yrs ago I never did SQUATS. Well Today I incorparated them into my weight lifting routine. Gentleman I take my hat off to you and salute. I thought I was about to kill myself. I did 6 sets of 6 reps. Don't sound to bad except the olympic bar only had a 45 lb plate on each side. Again I salute all of you guys and just thinking about tomorrow mornig. Will I be able to get up from the pot when nature calls.

GOOD FOR YOU :thumb:
That's high volume for taking a 20yr layoff. But you know what? That's what us insane mf'er's do. A 40yr old buddy of mine actually just got started a week ago after about 7 years of laziness. He's like 5'8, 210. He's overweight and really outta shape. But last week he started lifting for 30-45min, and does about 20-30min of jogging afterward. i have so much respect for the guy, because he's really getting into it. I think its great you found your love again, "Old" man haha. glad to hear your back...

and yes, unfortunately you're not gonna be able to get off the can tom. morning, but its a great place to get stuck and its well worth it, ain't it?? ;)

It's the same as condoms. Tis better to have one when u don't need it (or in this case, your toilet when u don't need to shit), than to not have one when you do need it (or in your case, to have to shit and be stuck in a long car ride)

its only a matter of time before youre squatting 500lb for 23 reps

I squat with light weights as well. I'm 46 and am not in competition, and see no reason to tear my back up. Although I do use heavy weights for my leg extensions and leg curls.

and see no reason to tear my back up.

if you just trained your back and had correct form then you wouldn't be ricking "tearing your back up" ya know. just a thought. its all good thou. its about time you started squatting then toughguy, get it craccin boy. good luck

Tough guy,

the point of my story was that my buddy did like 3 sets of pushups, and 3 sets of bench, and he siad he was in SO much pain for like 3 days. PAIN, not soreness he stressed haha.

You not being able to get up from the toilet reminds me of Danny Glover not being able to get up because there was a bomb under the seat in one of the first Lethal Weapons.

enjoy the toilet! welcome back!

You are absolutely right, GR,.. no doubt, and I use correct form! But I am not in competition and have no need to shove 500 lbs.

Hats off to us? Shit, hats off to YOU. Im really impressed and you should be with yourself. Squats are the king of all lifts, and most people dont do them because they are afraid. To step up to the plate and hit them hard is just fuckin awesome. Good for you, seriously. Keep it up, itll get easier. The first couple times on squats is always the most painful. After a few leg days, youll get used to it and it wont be so rough....

Keep it up. :thumb:

that's a good start, keep up the good work and you will improve in no time :)

well shit, I am not in competitions and I suppose there is no "need" to do it. I guess you either want it or you don't. I defn want it. Squatting big weight is the NUMBER ONE long term goal I have for myself that largely outshadows everything else, so I can't relate to that sentiment bro..lol. man I wanna get under the bar with 700+. I can taste it fellas.. peace

With proper form, you'll feel it evenyl across the muscle groups. When you don't, you know where your weakness is and you train it. Keep at it. In a month, when you're ready for the big time, let the Westsiders know. :)
