USA Eliminated

Now if it was Canadian Football Rules then that would be the toughest sport hands down :p

easily haha

Soccer sucks and only 9 % of the world cares about it! Less than 4% of Americans even watched the damn thing!

The USA fucking sucked. I knew they would choke. They blew it big time. Terrible coaching IMO. They played like pussies.

Soccer is a fucking great game and hard as hell!! It is just silly to compare sports so different as soccer and football. Come on. That is like apples and oranges. Both are incredibly difficult and require incredible athletic talent. But comparing them is just moronic.

As far as australia goes.....when have they dominated the world cup? olympics? world strongman?

exactly.

I love playing soccer, very challenging. Now watching it, the Sportscenter highlights are enough for me. Most of the guys who "train" on this site would die within the first 5 minutes of a soccer match. The USA was ranked 4th so that Americans would think they were good and watch. Guess what? Didn't work.

Exactly what 9% are you referring to?
The one thing about us americans, if we are not good at something, then it must suck. We suck as soccer, therefore, soccer sucks :hmmm: .....Oh well...

Dale, I think the rankings are rigged. I find it impossible for the US to be ranked ahead of Spain and Portugal. The fact of the matter is that, as someone mentioned earlier, they play in a creampuff group, the CONCACAF, which includes all of the countries in North, Central America and the Antillies. When you beat down powerhouses like Guatemala, Nicaragua and Haiti a few times, you get wins. Those are counted in the rankings, thus, a high ranking that is more smoke and mirrors than anything else. This team should be ranked more in the 30's, that's just my opinion....

that's right.

I don't understand the game...its so backwards in the evolutionary chain. No hands?:yell: We have our opposable thumbs for a reason. games that end it a tie are a joke anyways. Glad to see hockey evolved.

is there anything you guys are good at??????????? go australia round of 16 here we come and we have 17 mill in this country how many in america 255mill god u guys are shit!!!!!

The U.S. population is close to 300 million.

Aceshigh:

In the U.S. there are many other sports that athletes play: baseball, NFL football, basketball, hockey, and other.

A lot of Americans also play individual sports like Golf and BodyBuilding, for example.

Football (soccer) is very popular through high school. After high school, there aren't a lot of options for athletes that play soccer, save a scholarship to a Uni. so the often switch their focus on another sports, or stop playing at the organized level.

World Cup:

The great thing about the world cup is that nobody really can call these games. The analysts, and commentators often can't pic a winner, nor can the fans.

Sudden death in the 2nd round: a team gets hot, good luck, bad calls, etc.

Oh, and please, Australia was playing an 11 man defense against Brazil... Hell they were playing "Everyone get inside the Goal" defense and hope to God that Brazil plays bad defense to counter attack...

Name calling, interesting.....
How old are you, 4? You can't have a normal conversation with someone because they don't agree with you?
I want you to tell me who you guys beat to get into the World Cup and yes, there were SEVEN shots on goal, all of them on counter attacks. Watch the game again kid. How long have you been watching soccer?
Another thing, I wasn't born in the US, in fact I was born in South America, where soccer is King so do me a favor and don't lecture me on soccer. I however, am also an american, so the venom you spew bothers me, even if you have said nothing intelligent while spewing.
By the way, while you were cursing and screaming, you never really addressed any of my points intelligently.
Another thing, I was not discrediting Australia, I LIKE AUSTRALIA. In fact, I was, and am rooting for them because I have a few buddies of mine who are australian. I was discrediting your comments because they are nothing more than crap rants. You came in insulting all americans because they lost in the World Cup. Do you really thing that americans give a crap about losing in the World Cup? Get real...
First half of the Brazil game, wide open game, why? Brazilians (and you can read this in the news) were afraid of playing Australia because they thought that Australia would come hitting and playing rough. Thus, wide open first half. Second half, Brazil played their game and Australia couldn't do much. I watched the game, oh, and by the way kid, I have played the game.
I'm happy Australia made it to the second round, because I know that most people over there are nice people. Unlike you, who comes in boasting and insulting everyone after BARELY getting into the second round, because don't give me crap about a win and a tie (World super powers Japan and the Czech republic.
Now, the only tool here is he who blows up because he can't have an intelligent conversation with someone else. You have no new information to give and in fact, I think that even continuing bothering with you is nothing more than an utter waste of my time and bandwith, so I am done with you, goodbye and good luck.
See? I made my points without looking or acting like a tool. Didn't call you any names....

I agree totally - all of the teams are scared to play Australia. Hell I'd be scared to play Australia if I didn't know they were girly soccer players who I could kick the arse of merely by looking at.

The problem is that when you have a team that is slapped together at the last minute, that is made up of players who have never seen each other before, you have to physically beat the crap out of the opposition.

Let's face it, Australia isn't a team. The other teams cannot even analyse previous Australian games to work out tactics - because there are no previous games that this team has played. The same goes for America.

The only teams who have a hope of pulling it together for the world cup, as a team, are those who are always playing as a team - which is most of the top South American and European teams. The rest of the world's teams' are a fucking haphazard shambles who are likely to fire or implode at any moment.

Notwithstanding any of the abovementioned - more people watch the world cup than any other sporting event - shambles or no shambles it's keeping someone amused.

Great point, Austrailia is not really a team that you can scout or even prepare well for, so they can sneak up on you and bite you in the arse.

Aceshigh: I believe every team that made it to the World Cup, deserved to make it. Australia fielded a good team of good hard nosed players. They made it to the second round because they deserved to make it to the second round and they played well enough to make it. If they took 7 shots at goal at Brazil, good for them, they played hard and were simply outclassed by a very strong team of world class players, but Australia did more than hold it's own. I am happy that you are such a rabid fan of your team and applaud your passion, so I absolutely take back what I said because the reality is that my country's team didn't make it (Venezuela) and my american team (grossly overrated) got their asses handed to them thanks to a very conservative approach by their coach...
I don't want to fight, I'd rather go back and correct what I said and continue being. That's all I have.....Sounds good?

Watching soccer is like watching paint dry. It may be more challenging endurance-wise, but american football is superior in every way. Even the officials, as bad as they were in the playoffs, were not a bad as they were in the World Cup.

I get soccer fans riled up when I say this, but soccer is the WORST thing to happen to American sports. Kids play it until they are 12 and then never play it again. In the meantime, it limits them in playing basketball, baseball or football.

I coach youth basketball, and anytime a kid tells me he is also playing soccer, I immediatly assume he will miss half the practices and 1/4 of the games.

I hate soccer.

The way that could make soccer more interesting is to make the field smaller, make it 5 on 5, cover the field with ice and make the players wear skates.

We don't win at the World Cup b/c we do not send our best atheletes. We send the best soccer players this country has to offer but out best athletes are playing other sports.

Baseball requires less athletic ability but much more skill than soccer.

I like baseball, but I can understand why others think it is boring.

That is so true. My friends and I used to play soccer when we were growing up and then by the time we reached 5th grade (12 years old), we switched over to football. Soccer is fun when you're a kid but once you get older, it gets boring and it's not as popular. Football is more fun, challenging and more people follow the games.

Let's see, make $5 million a year playing football, or make $45,000 a year playing soccer, you do the math.
