So THAT'S what the top of the pullup bar looks like! I finally got my big ass (292lbs) to do a pullup last night for the first time. I hadn't tried in a long time and was surprised that I actually got up. Tried for two but that was a no-go.

Not much else to report really. Just gloating :)

Shoot, I can't do more than 8 and I've never been over 240 :(

Pronated grip, or supsinated?

Either way, well done. The first is always the proudest.

Supsinated grip puts your biceps in a stronger position so they tend not to fail as soon as with pronated grip (less of a weak link), so your back usually gets a better workout. It may be an idea to employ this grip until your back is stronger, so eventually you'll manage 8 or so reps with a pronated grip and you can start adding weight round your waist.

Im a big guy and have alot of weight to pull up for pullups too. But the gym I go to got this new pullup machine where you can add plates to the other side to counter balance your weight, so you dont have to pull up AS mutch. Man my lats have never been so sore in my life.. gets me mutch better than dumbell rows :thumb:

Chicken Daddy, I don't know what pronated is, but my hands palms were facing me.

Our gym has the assisted bar dip/pullup machine as well. I started doing pullups and bardips with 130lbs of assistance. Now that I've lost a few tons and grown some muscle, I don't need to use it anymore :)

Right, so supsinated grip then (means palms facing you). Good stuff.

I love pullups. I'll do pronated wide grip to failure for one set, then take a close grip cable attachment and place it over the bar for some close grips chins for another set to failure. I'll aternate this way for 4 sets each. Great workout for the back.

BTW~ Congrats on your achievement. :thumb:

Nice job, dude.

My back did not start to grow until I started doing pullups. Now I do four sets of pulls and chins before every back work out to get my lats ready for the heavy stuff.

Pullups rule over pulldowns, haven't done supinated for along time.

If I do supinated closegrip (ie. palms facing me) That works my bicep mostly?

Yes, but try using a CG cable attachment thrown over the bar that puts your hands facing each other. This will take alot of your arms out of the equation. Initiate the movement by contracting your lats. Be sure to squeeze your lats at the top. The key is to think about using your back to pull you up, not your arms. After several sets, you'll swear you have wings.

Not necessarily.

Shoulder-width grip, and really focus on your lats and various other back muscles pull the weight.

It just puts your biceps in their strongest position so lessens the likelyhood of your biceps giving out (or giving out sooner than they normally would).

25 is my new record!! It took me a while to break 22. I do palm out a little wider than shoulder.
