walking cardio

Since moving to London (and not having a car or being too cheap to use public transportation) my walking has gone up exponentially. I walk 3-4 miles a day just for my regular scheudal, sometimes more. Should I count this into my cardio and if so how much cardio should I be doing?
 
walking isnt cardio vascular exercise so don't count it.
 
For cardio your heart rate should be significantly increased for a duration of time. Unless you are horribly out of shape I dont think walking will do it.
 
Doesn't it depend on what exactly we mean by cardio?

Strictly speaking, cardio refers to exercising the heart, elevating it's rate to a designated level, so that it beats slower when at rest.

'cardio' among us BB's usually refers to some form of exercise that burns more calories than sitting on your ass, so, doesn't walking count?

That is what I was refering to. Should I cut back on just eat more?
 
Yeah, it is definelty a brisk pace. I thought that might be the case.

I'm a powerwalker, trail walker, hiker/backpacker. No one in my family can keep up with me. Depending on how fast you are going you can most certainly get your heart rate up when walking 3-4 miles. 4 miles is a piece of cake for me. I do upwards of 6-8 miles and I'm working to a 10 mile round trip to town with a half loaded backpack. I live in a very hilly area of New England. My walking is cardio...no ands ifs or buts about it.
 
I'm not saying that walking isnt good exercise but its unlikely that you push your heart and lungs into the aerobic training zone (around 70% of max heart rate)

I guess it depends on your definition of the word "cardio"
