I'm 42, in a mid-life crisis, :~P, want to lose 40 lbs. I started to lift 3 times a week (alternating upper and lower body) , approx 50 min a workout and run 3 times a week on alternating days, with one day a week off.

I'm 5'10", 215 lbs. male. It seems I should eat 6 times a day! I'm use to small breakfast, medium lunch, large supper, snack at night. 6 times is tough with my work. I'm looking for suggestions on meal supplements and others keeping in mind my weight loss goal and wish to "define" my body a little. Do I need all this "whey protein" and creotine stuff? What about Xenadrine?

Thanks!

You really don't need anything except to modify your diet and change your activity level. Weight loss is a very simple formula...calories in versus calories out.

For a start, write down everything you eat for a few days (at least one weekend day) and figure out how many calories you are taking in of proteins, carbs and fats. This will give you a good starting block to modify your diet. If you can eliminate 500 calories per day through diet and exercise, you will lose 1 lb. per week. It is recommended to only lose 1-1.5 lbs. per week if you want to really keep it off, so set yourself some short term goals and get to it. We will all help you out as much as possible. I myself lost 60 lbs. a couple of years ago so I know how you feel.

Do you exercise right now? If so, how much and how often? There are lots of easy ways to modify your lifestyle so that you can achieve your goals.

Try to at least keep the meals evened out somewhat, a large dinner is not a good idea, especially if its within 3 hours of bedtime.

The stomach is like a furnace, if you fill it up completely it will be inneficient, lighter meals go over well with the body, which is one of several reasons for the smaller more frequent meals. I bet you could find a spot where you could add in a light healthy snack somewhere, and cut down slightly your larger meal of the day. Be satisfied, not full, in other words, stop eating like an American.

Yes I do exercise right now, just started a formal program.

What about Xenadrine before workouts to lose weight a little quicker? Bad idea?

After I work out I have to race off to work. Is Labrada Lean Body Lo Carb a good choice for meal replacement afterwards or should I do a whey shake?

Can I eat one of my six meals after 6PM (9PM) or is this considered a no-no?

you can eat after 6 pm....in fact, it's suggested that you do....going from 6 pm to morning is far too long to go w/o food, you will begin to catabolize muscle. Post workout, since you're trying to lose fat, I'd have a whey shake w/ 1 tbsp of flax or 3 tbsp of cream. IMO, you don't really need a thermo at this point...get your diet in order first.

What you're eating is just as important as how much and when you're eating. If you want, you could post your daily diet and we can offer alternatives and suggestions :)
