I heard that too. So I also warmup with low cardio for 5-10 min and sometimes general body movements but no stretching. I leave stretching at the end of my workout.
There is always debate over whether to stretch before or after workout...all therapists I have talked to say if you're going to it once, do it after when your muscles are already shortened. Warmup should be enough to raise your body temp 1 degree and break a light sweat.
