Hi i was lookin at getting a weight bench but im not quit sure on what one i wanna get....I seen the Powertec Workbench Rack System and was wonderin if anyone has any reviews on it?????
 
looks like you could get at least a 2 year membership at a nice gym for less money...

not have to buy attachments, additional weights, dumbells, etc.

but for some people a gym isnt the way to go...
in that case
ill stay out of it
 
a gym membership works well for me right now but i can see myself going the home gym route in the future when i'm married with kids... i enjoy going to the gym but also think it would be nice to train in the comfort of my own home...

i did a search for the one you're looking at and found this one which also looks pretty sweet ---> The Treadmill Factory - Powertec Power Rack Set

you could put together tons of great work outs using something like this i would think

i think you have to buy any bars, weights and benches separately though but this power rack set also has a pull up bar, a pull down cable, a row cable, dip bars... it looks really sweet actually...
 
Buy a power rack if you don't want a gym membership dude. That bench is guided like a Smith. No one likes a Smith.

Spend your money here (althought you might want a beefier looking one):

And on a set of plates and a cheap bench. Dicks runs great specials sometimes, I got a full 300 lb olympic set of plates with bar for around $200 a few years ago IIRC.

$600 a power rack
$100 an adjustable bench
$50 olympic bar
$250? set of olympic weights
$300 and a few dumbbells (20's 65's 80's) would be all i ever need

around $1300 for all new equipment...

keep in mind that dumbbells run around $1 a pound...
future upgrades could get expensive

Well about this membership deal we have a YMCA in my town but its the only gym within 50 miles so its always real busy and its hard to get ur shit done????

Try to find a time to go to the gym when there are very little people there. Anytime after 7 P.M. works best for me.

precisely why if you were to get a home gym you'd need a range of DBs... i think that's where it could start to get really expensive...
 
in my opinion it's just proportionately higher compared to your other lifts... not that it matters... i'm not judging or anything... just a simple observation...

is 315 your one rep max or do you get a few reps with it?
 
bench- 185- 6 reps
squat- 225- 6 reps
dead- 315-6 reps

nevermind i just saw this in another thread... like i said... just seems proportionately higher compared to your other lifts... i haven't been regular deadlifting for long and right now i deadlift about as much as i squat which is just slightly more than what you've got down there... but it'll be a while before i'm deadlifting with 3 plates a side for 6 reps...
 
my 1 rep maxes are around

205 bench press (i havnt maxed in awhile, and my workout weight has gone up)
275 squat (calculated)
365 dead (calculated)



it is slightly higher comparatively

but all of my lifts fall in the "intermediate" standards
my deadlift falls somewhere above that but not significantly

either way it's impressive man... i'm deadlifting about 245 for 5-6 reps right now... i know it's nothing impressive but like i said i just started regular deadlifting a couple months ago and am still please as i've been on a steady incline in the amount i can lift since... but right now my form really starts to break down if i go any higher than that... not to mention i'm afraid of a back injury if i let my ego get the best of me...

i agree
the weight you lift should not be as important as the effort your exerting and form you are using

im a firm believer that if you sacrifice form, the lift is no good

i Rarely drop below 6 reps on anything for that reason


but the fact you do deadlifts at all is impressive to me
i swear to god im the only person who does them in my gym

and when i do, people look at me like they are amazed at what im doing...
 
sounds like my gym we have alot of big guys that go there yet i never see a deadlift i think ive seen a total of 5 people do them and 3 of them i train with
 
but i bet you see plenty of leg press (hands on the knees im sure)
 
every one of them, but only half use their hands lol
 
I recently stopped using the leg press but am thinking I might work it back into my next program for single leg work
 
dont get me wrong...
the leg press has its place

but for some reason 95% of the people in my gym must think it is the pinnacle of leg exercises or something...

everyone uses it, but they are all so scared of doing deep squats.
 
check craigslist for weight lifting equipment. I found all my equipment on there for cheap.
 
i like leg presses but the one at the gym i go to i do not like because of the stress it puts on my hips
 
i found many ads with gym equipment on craigslist and prices was cheap
