Hello everyone,

I'm going to get straight to the point I need to gain weight. I'm only 5' 8"
and 140lbs, I'm trying to gain at least 25lbs of muscle. My metobolism is faster than a ferrari testarosa. What are the best weight/muscle gainers in the market?

if you have a blender at home it would be cheaper to make your own weight gainer shakes with milk, eggs, yogurt, protein powders and oatmeal to save your wallet some unneccesary damage. most weight gainers are garbage. real food is always better than supps bro

I make shakes w/ 2 scoops BSN Truemass, 1 scoop ON whey, 1% milk, and an egg. Gained some weight with them.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definetly try that I just wouldnt know how to begin. I want to make it tasteful so that I wont puke.

Knock back two tablespoons of ordinary olive oil before two of your daily shakes. There you go, a pound a week AND it enhances testosterone production.

There you go - easy, fast, cheap, effective, and healthy.

Thats funny that you recommend to use true mass because when I was in Iraq I was on true mass. I gained about 20lbs in 4months. I was also going to the gym 4 times a week if I had time. True mass did work but it had to much sugar per serving. Thanks for the tip.

I always liked making homemade gainers.

Scoop of whey, cup of oatmeal, 2tbsp natty pb, 2 cups milk or water. Either way it's cheap and tasty.

This.

Olive oil is amazing.

hey bro ... i have to agree with some of these posts ... i think it is better to make your own weight gainers for a couple of reasons. 1. like you said, most are loaded with sugar. 2. it gets pretty expensive per serving when you add it up ... try this out ...

1 serving Muscleology Nitro Pro Vanilla - 30 grams of protein, 140 cal
1 serviing Optimum Nutrition 100% Casein Vanilla - 24 grams of protein,120 cal
1 Banana 108 cal, 17 carbs, 15 sugars
2 table spoons of Peanut Butter - 380 cal, 16 protein, 32 fat, 7 carbs
Mix with 2% Milk (2 serv) and Ice - 16 grams of protein, 245 cal, 24 sugar, 24 carbs

totals -
993 cals
86 grams of protein
only 39 sugar for 993 cals (3.9% sugar only)

ok you get the picture ... and it is a lot cheaper per serving to do it. I usually buy the proteins at MooreMuscle or A1Supplements ... i find them cheapest there. Good luck!

OK on an unrelated note...I've heard that an average body can utilize around 40 grams of protein per serving. If you mix casein and whey will your body process more of the protein since the casein stays in your system longer?

This is a persistent myth and you'll continue to hear it for the rest of your life I'm sure, but it really doesn't work that way and don't get hung up on the relative speeds of the proteins. Just eat, get in lots of calories, and load up on stuff that doesn't fill you too much, like olive oil.

I beg to differ with my esteemed colleague but proteins do digest at different speeds. I carry two masters degrees in Nutrition and Sports Nutrition. There have been 1148 studies regarding the digestion speeds of proteins both from whole foods and supplements. Each shows that proteins digest at drastically different speeds in some cases. In a study between Whey protein and Casein protein conducted at the University of Brussels, it showed that Casein protein digests up to 77% slower than Whey.

Your original question about the amount of protein a body can digest at one time, there is no conclusive evidence to show one way or another. Some studies show it depends on your size, some studies say it depends on the purity of protein you are using.

The idea of a weight gainer I posted for you earlier was to precisely avoid that issue (if it is an issue at all). If you have any questions at all feel free to let me know!

Ah, I was unclear in my post - this wasn't the part I meant was a myth. I know there are differences in the speed of digestion amongst proteins. Lyle McD has written extensively on this What Are Good Sources of Protein? - Speed of Digestion Part 2 | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald. The Boirie study I think is the one to which you refer, right? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC25140/pdf/pq014930.pdf This was done after an overnight fast. Mixed meals and/or the fed state would make a more natural setting - harder to study of course, thus the fasted state. But perhaps not as generalizable.
Although interesting, I am not sure how much of an impact this makes on a young bodybuilder who simply needs to eat. This was why I suggested the OP simply not worry about this for now. He just needs to eat.

^ This was the part I meant was a myth. I should have been more clear. Happens when I type too fast.

Livetosquat, I am envious of your formal training. Do you work in the industry?
