When deadlifting, is the sumo type stance better or is the conventional form better?

That's a real good question. I'm moving some very large rocks around with some landscaping right now at home. I sumo them. In the gym I go bar normal and rub my shins. I think that in the real world sumo applies more. Very interesting.........?

P.S. I have to get up at 5am but can't sleep because I hope to catch fish I have to sumo. YES!!!!

When I go normal I have also hit my shins several times. Thats why today I switched and tried sumo style. I really liked it.

Whatever feels the most comfortable.

holy cow! even i wanted to ask the exact same question.;)

well what width(stance) do you use for sumo deadlift?

sumo has you hands placed on the bar between your legs, whereas you hands are outside your legs. Look up a few videos on youtube to get a better idea. Foot width is typically 1.5-2 shoulder widths on sumo, compared to 1-1.5 on conventional. The range of motion is reduced on sumo, so you should be lifting heavier weight compared to conventional

not better. different.

also, depending on your individual body, one technique may be more efficient than another. still, variety is always good.

What P said. They are equally as good, but one may be more comfortable to you depending on your body type. I am tall, with a long torso, so sumo causes less injuries than conventional for me.

I'm a sumo fan myself. With my height (6'6") traditional style seems to cause a lot more problems for me. Sumo makes things quite a bit easier.

I usually do some of both. There is no reason to restrict your style to one style or another. Both are effective.

sumo/conventional

When not training for a meet lifters often deadlift in the style they dont use in competition to work some different muscles. I cant get near the pull from a sumo I get from conventional.

It's funny, I used to pull more sumo, then I started moving past my sumo numbers with a conventional stance, now sumo reigns supreme once again. Funny...
