great question!
Here's something from the book
Food Remedies:
Insomnia...Restful Foods
"eating draws blood into the gastrointestinal tract and away from the brain...if you draw blood away from the brain, you're going to get sleepy"
turkey, chicken and dairy ~ high in trytophan (amino acid which is converted into serotonin...which is converted into malatonin...both make you feel relaxed). Trytophan best in combonation with starch (insulin pushes all amino acids except trypotphan into muscle cells...leaves trypot alone in blood stream...and it's 1st in line to get to brain).
B vitamins help tryptophan work more efficiently. Found in lean meat, tuna. (although I think B vitamins...like honey...can spike energy?)
banana or bowl of
oatmeal will slightly boost your melatonin levels.
not enought magnesium stimulates brain neurotransmitters...over stimulates brain. magnesium found in dried beans, spinach, soybeans, pumpkin seeds, wheat germ and almonds.
..........
just some info I'd read. Looking for to reading/learning more.
