I didn't know you watched these peoples lifts on a regular basis, I dont see why you would care.

And, most of what Metal Militia does is very low rep work. They aren't Westside guys.

I'm not goind to argue with you....just an observation....or opinion if you like
I trained at Quads gym in Chicago for a year...Ed Conan
coan1003.jpg

trained there and so did some other power lifters....Ed did sets of 5 and 6 all the time....as well as sets of 3....and singles

The first gym I trained at was all power lifters and they did sets of 5 also.....it was a big part of their training.

But who am I to know.....

Putting on suits of armor is a common mistake nowadays.

Especially with us teenagers.

I was under the impression that metal militia guys were dirt bike riders.

If there are guys out there benching 800+ that listen to metal and riding dirtbikes in NY, then I guess you are right.

Foreman, @ Ed "Conan"

There are many ways to skin a cat, not everyone lifts the same - PL or otherwise. I know someone who benches an honest 600, he usually lifts slow and for high reps however, not often ever seeing above 4 plates.

He didn't train with me
as a matter of fact he never spoke to me ;)
But he did train at Quads gym in the mid 90's...maybe still???
and I was lucky enough to be a member and see him train from time to time...

We all don't live in small towns

I live in California

The typical person who is in the metal militia out here usually is white trash they typically also ride dirt bikes/ smoke and grow pot/ and listen to metal of course. Never known them to be into strength training.

They are two different groups lol. They are not affiliated.

If you watch X games you will see some of the dirt jumper with a skull with a army hat on it that says metal militia under it. Your right there obviously different groups of people.LOL

back to the topic

1. not having mind/muscle connection( good form with it of course)
2. doing supersets, drop sets, partials, etc. as a beginner
3. not emphasizing the basic fundamental movements- squats, bench, dead, stiff deads, mil. press, dips, pullups, upright rows, etc. etc.

there are many other things, but number 1 is the most important in my opinion as far as training goes.

post your routine please
I'm doing a mix of P-RR-S, Mike Mentzer heavy duty and DC training. I do only 1 rest pause style set for each muscle.

I was first overtraining with DC training, but that was because I was not eating properly (not enough). In fact, I was loosing fat and jump right into the 2 rest pause sets so I ended up overtrained.

Overtraining is probably top.

Another consistant problem I see is people trying to push higher weights but sacrificing form. Somehow they think that stacking 225 on the Lat Pull and swinging thier body back and forth to pull the cable somehow makes them appear to be stronger

Another good example is a guy I saw doing barbell curls. He was swinging his hips back and forth so much to get the momentum to pendulum the bar up that he looked like he was trying to hoola-hoop!

The biggest mistake I see (I mostly see teens train) is only doing bench press and curls, and doing bench press and curls too much.
this is all I ever see at the college gym.

I'm guilty of overtraining at times. Sometimes motivation gets out of hand. When on a roll, it's hard to stop.

Biggest mistake I witness, and I witness it too often, is people throwing the dumbells up, using their whole body, curling their back into it. I won't tell them to only use their forearms, it's quite funny watching them fuck-up, then look in the mirror flexing their pea-grain biceps thinking they have just Arnied up their whole upper body......assholes!
