I have ALOT of Whey Protein, but I heard in some places Whey is only required post workout. So what are the opinions on this ?

Whey protein is a source of protein that should be supplemental to your diet in helping you acheive your total reccomended protein intake for the day.

I personally take it before and after the workout, as well as in the morning and before i go to bed.

Why three large meals?

There are loads of combinations

3 small/medium meals + three shakes + 1 PWO shake
4 small medium meals + two shakes + 1 PWO shake
6 small/ medium meals + 1 PWO shake.

No.

Meal 1 + Protein Shake
Meal 2
Meal 3
Protein Shake (Pre-Workout)
Protein Shake (Post-Workout)
Meal 4
Meal 5 + Protein Shake

Its 4 protein shakes and 5 meals if you want to count them separately.

I never understand the point of eating a meal and drinking a protein shake at the same time...why not just make sure to get enough protein from the solid food?? Or maybe you are and are over doing it by drinking a shake anyway.

Only time I think it is necessary is PWO, when a fast absorbing protein is needed, maybe pre workout too (I prefer some type of creatine PreWO and PWO with a protein shake..)...other shakes should be used for sheer convenience when food isn't an option. As alot of protein shakes JUST have protein and don't exactly resemble a meal.

5 meals @ 40g+ Shake @ 40g = 240g of protein.....that's more than enough for most of us, but whatever floats your boat.

I do this.

Which is why when not having them for pre/post workout purposes, i take the protein shakes with a solid food meal.

Not all my meals have that much (40g+) protein in them. The shakes just help out. Atm i weigh 165, and im getting about 200-240g of protein a day, and 3400kcal give or take a hundred or two depending on how much of i pig i feel like being :P.

I eat to suit my means. My shakes are 35g of protein. I tried this same program with a higher protein content (40g-ish) shake mixture and i could shit through the eye of a needle.

Lovely image to leave you with there :thumb:.

But yeah, i know what youre saying. It has the possibility to be excessive, if i dont watch what im eating.

^^^^^^

I say that whey protein is most effective peri-workout, but it can be used other times. I consume some pre and post workout, but I also often have to include another shake during the day where I use whey if I have 3-4 clients back to back.

Hell, I sometimes eat a big meal with a protein shake. However, MY reason would be cuz I wont have the time to get another 2-3 meals in the next few hours.

As far as my weight and strength numbers go, I hardly ever get 1g protein to 1lb of bodyweight. So some alterations are made.
