i am currently trying to get that six pack right for the summer, im currently switching from bulking to trying to get down to that elusive six pack. My diet is pretty good, bout 1700-2000 a day. While i wana cut now i do not want to lose the Lean muscle i worked so hard for. Should I continue taking 60g protien(230 cals also) after every workout or should i just cut it out till i bulk again? my thinking is it will help me conseve and deminish the loss of muscle i will probably recieve from cutting cals and extra cardio. should i keep taking it or lay off it for a bit? thanks

Your body is going to lose fat via a calorie deficit, and its going to burn mostly fat but unfortunately it also burns muscle. I think that your body may use some of the protien for energy instead of taking it from your muscles. I read that in an advertisement for a protien supplement once. I'm in the same situation, I cut my cals to <2000/day and I continue to use whey. I also run and do sprints now for cardio and train abs. Hopefully I can take my shirt off for some beach volleyball by mid-summer.

technically youd want to use regular foods on a cut except after a workout. your body works to digest foods a lot harder than it works to digest whey protein.

ok, ya that sound about what im doing, i ussually dont miss a day at the gym so i hardley ever take it without exercise or in the morning. so i should still take it after exercise? i think thats what im getting

Don't cut your cals that low. You can still cut fat while eating upwards of 3000 cals a day, you just need to eat clean and do cardio. Stick to things like red meat, nuts, legumes, cottage cheese, low cal protein shakes and other healthy foods, but dropping your calories to 1700 will most likely result in losing some of your muscle, which sucks. How much do you weigh? Remember, the bigger you are, the more calories you need just for maintenance.

If your 5'9" and weighing 180, you don't need to drop your cals drastically. The key is to clean up your diet and keep the cardio up, but cutting cals as much as some people are suggesting will result in you losing muscle. Remember it is easier for your body to burn muscle tissue than fat, so don't do anything to drastic.

30-40 grams of protein post workout is sufficient.
