Many of us do or have focused so much on the quality and brand of our supplements/protein powders that we have often forgot the source & quality of the staples of real food.

Im not looking for the standard responses of chicken, beef or milk to my question.

The question is asked to figure out where you guys source your food from i.e farmer, supermarket, local store. And maybe where they get it from and what diet the animals are on.
After all we are what we eat.....and their is a big difference from a factory chicken eating GM corn to a wandering chicken eating organic grain and goats milk.

Since applying nutriton to my physique for the last 15 years i am only now just starting to see that the better the source of my foods, the healthier, stronger and leaner i am.

For me its organic and biodynamic meats, eggs, veg/fruit, grains along with raw dairy.
All the meat and dairy are from pasture fed animals and the eggs are from organic chickens who are seriously walking around a huge paddock.
The fruit/veg is all organic too. And all of it is super tasty....and is giving my physique thicker and fuller look.

Anyone else out there going organic/grassfed?

I try to go organic/grassfed when I can. Problem the stuff is so dam expensive when you have to feed a family too.
While I think it has it's important benefits, avoiding the bad shit probably makes more sense when working with a food budget.

Some expensive cut of steak that was accidentally thawed when my freezer took a dump.

Perhaps a blessing in disguise?

My question is, unless you are buying it directly from the farmer, how do you know it's "organic"?

I guess the answer is noone cares or knows. Hell, in theory, noone really knows now do they? They might be paying under the table for the certification stamps.

You won't know for sure unless you interview and go to the farm(s). Not possible for most folks. I'm in SC so I could If I really wanted to.

More expensive to not use chemicals to keep bugs off fruits and vegetables, more wasted fruits and vegetables. Like merk says cost more to get certification. I live next to a farm were grass fed beef is sold. They take up allot more land per cow than a farm that normally puts so many cows on a plot that there is no grass. They walk around all day in a mash of mud & their own shit & piss. You can smell the production farms miles away. My eyes start watering it's so bad.
Go for a ride in the country & take your pick which one you'd rather eat. It all looks the same once it's cut up and processed.

I know things called "organic" are more expensive for those reasons. My question is how can you be certain of the validity of the "organic" claim, unless you go directly to the farm.

The organic question?

This a very good question.

I think we have a good chance of knowing whether say an animal food or even plant food is organic/reared naturally by being more aware of our food. For me thats coming to a place of knowing what my food really is supposed to look like and taste like, and how its supposed to be processed.

I dont think food/meat does look the same once its all cut up.

So with chicken for example healthy chickens are normally small/medium (approx4-6lb) have yellowy flesh and skin and are not chlorinated after being gutted. The chicken liver also is blacky red not yellowy brown as it is in conventional chickens. Conventional chickens also weigh a lot more through overfeeding of the wrong foods.

With beef, cows are fed grain to increase their size through water retention, however healthy beef is fed grass and therefore has lots more marbling (fat within the muscle), which makes beef more tender and flavorsome and the fat is more yellow looking, not white as it is with grain fed beef.

Healthy/organic meat I find tastes much richer and is sweet.

As ive grown in awareness these indicators have helped me to know how healthy or organic my food is and probably show if its more organic than not.

Lastly for me, there is a certain element of trust involved! Knowing the person who is sourcing my food/butcher/farmer or at least their reputation and being able to ask them any question about the food i am eating and getting a straight and clear no bs answer gives me confidence. For example I called a couple of egg farms about 6 months ago including the one where my eggs come from & asked them what the chickens diet was and how many chickens are on the farm & in each paddock. This was after i did some research & asked others about the egg/chicken game. Now im more empowered to know what to buy and eat and feed my family.

However to know 100% for sure if its organic or not I suppose in reality you will never know. However not may things unfortunately today you can know for sure.

Ive gone on a bit, so im signing off, but I hope that helps.

Do we take this approach with supplements and protein powders? I mean just coz it says so on the label - how do we know?
