I'm thinking of taking a week off from the gym, but continuing my diet as there's be evidence that you can return stronger.. Who here does this and how often should you take a week off?
I usually take a week off every eight weeks and after contest. I do the DogCrapp workout and normally by this time my joints need a break. And yes I do come back stronger.
During my powerlifting days I would take off a week when I just felt I needed it. My father would always give me shit saying that is not being dedicated. Well by 15 years old I was squating and deadlifting more than he was and I weighed less I can say in my case without a doubt I came back stronger from a week off. Both of us would take a week off prior to a competition so he believed in my theory and didn't realize it
Im in the military and I take off two weeks twice a year when I get leave time. It doesn't seem to hurt anything. I would say follow what your body is telling you. There really is no point in going to the gym tired and lifting a half ass routine. On days you are too tired to lift I would say to go take a walk outside or jog. I find doing things outside tends to lift my spirit a little
I take a week off when I have trouble sleeping or I just feel tired in general. Everytime I do that I don't come back 'stronger' but I do feel better since all the aches and pains have gotten better.
Taking a week off right now. In the third week of my first PCT in about two years and life sucks. I plan to take off a week a couple times a year, but still end up at the gym. I think I'll make myself this time.
Try taking two months off! That's a real kick in the nuts! I was forced medically to take two months off. I put on almost thirty pounds of fat(my own fault for feeling sorry for myself) between food and beer. Just started to go to the gym this week. Holy crap, talk about being weak. It's alright though. I got back on the horse and hope to drop this weight as fast as I put it on.
Every 3 to 4 months is ideal. I don't schedule a week off because seems every so often something comes up that forces time off like last week. I was down and out with a cold so I can deal with taking a few days off for that.
I took a week off over the summer and it was great, came back and had one of the best training weeks ever. I'm going to try and take a week off every 4 to 6 months, with some shorter breaks spread in there
it just lets the entire body rest from head to toe all at once! as said keep your diet good and dont go on some eating binge and you should be all good and recharged!
If I take a week off my motivation goes to shit. I will take a few days off every once in a while but right now it's usually a random day off and I try to make that day sometime during the work week because on the weekends the gym is dead and I'll most likely have the weight room to myself.
