why are the people that scream and grunt always the sames ones who have awful form in every exercise they do, and they are always the same ones who just drop the dumbells from like 4 feet in the air when they are done with a set? and they are usually the same ones that are like 30% body fat but have broad shoulders so they think they are the baddest thing in the gym.

I recently joined a Gold's Gym, and I usually go to work out at times when the gym is empty, but the other day i made the mistake of going at "happy hour", the time when people just go to the gym to hang out and take like 10 minutes in between sets to babble with their spotting partener...etc. etc. These guys were doing incline dumbell press, and literally weren't bending their elbows past 15 degrees or so, the dumbells never came within a foot of their chest. Then after their last rep, they were all red in the face from screaming, and they would just drop the dumbells. It was so loud it sounded like a car crashed into the building.

Is it just me, or does anyone else like to consentrate on form? I like to use a weight I can controll, not one my spotter has to put his back into to lift off me. I don't mind people grunting, even loudly on occasion, but if everyone in the gym is looking at you, you are probably being to loud.

Is there any advantage to using a weight so heavy that your spotter has to do a substantial amount of work on every rep? I go to failure on benchpress if I have a spotter, but he never has to touch the bar until the last rep or two.

sorry, just felt like getting that off my chest.

I don't know why the 'screamers' have such horrible form. They are only there (the gym) to try and impress someone with their 'big lifts'. Teenage boys are almost always the ones doing the screaming / dropping weights in the gym, but I have seen a couple middle aged men guilty of not having any gym etiquett.

The problem is, that you are not a tough guy if you scream or grunt too loud. IMO it is the guys or gals that grit their teeth and endure the strain and exertion of lifting in silence that are impressive and tough.

Like you said, I also like to concentrate in the gym and it is difficult to do when someone is screaming and dropping weights on the floor.

I agree with you on that one madden player! I mean have you ever actually tried to scream your head off our grunt loudely during a set of HARDCORE SQUATS OR BARBELL CURLS its near impossible to even make a noise when your gritting your teeth trying to block out the pain.Never mind scream like a banshie. This is a great example of a gymbiecile but not as good as the Expanded Lat Syndrome Guy.
You will probably see him at your gym. Hes about 110 pounds but somehow thinks hes built like Ronnie Coleman!! and trys to empizies this by walking around with his arms out about 6-12 inches from his body.Giving the name expanded Lat Syndrome.:wtf:
Unfortunately this mental deease can worsen.it begins in the gym but can easily spread to the outside world into the gymbeciles everyday life.
For example the other day I was walking down the high street. This guy I was watching was walking down the other side of the street with his arms held out 15 inch but this wasnt good enough he was also stamping his feet (trying to make himself sound louder) as well.
The best way to avoid these morons is to hang out near the squat rack and when your near wimpy machines avoid eye contact at all costs! REMEMBER HE WANTS YOU TO NOTICE THEM!! and if you do he will look for you every time he is in the gym!!

I only scream during cardio, but that's just my mating call. :D

Well said. I rarely make any noise when I lift. If I do, then it's a "Hell yeah!" once I hit a PR or something. Even then, I lift at home, so I can make as much noise as I want. The few times I have gone to the gym, I remain fairly quiet.

Same here, CowPimp.

Speaking of screaming, did you ever watch Pumping Iron and listen to Arnold's story about the screaming poser?

hahahahha, i watch it everytime i go to the gym, hahahi love it........ anyway,

i hate screamers tho man i hate it, i mean i would be soooooooo emmberased if i was those people, dont they realize that they are emberasing themselfes i just dont get it its is anoying.... but i realized now that us people in here who are serious about bodybuilding and n one here seems to be the screamer, ( we had this talk before)

IMO if you can notice these people no matter how loud or rude they are it should tell you one thing... you need to focus more or turn your head phones up. Nobody, I mean NOBODY hinders my training. But Yes, I agree it's shitty of them. After all my name is SHUTUPNTRA1N derived from this example alone :D

I suppose, but in between sets, it is hard not to get distracted a little bit.

On my final reps I make an assotment of noises.

Sounds like the ones who complain about it need to focus more on themselves and less on others

Granted, but you workout with a lot more intensity than the average gym goer. Beyond that, I have a feeling that you don't make enough noise to be heard throughout an entire gym, as I have seen on one occasion of the few times I have been in a gym.

I ignore them but when they ask you to spot them then I really feel uncomfortable when they yell.

I haven't ever worked out in a gym, but I have trained people with methods that would require the average person to make noise. Maybe I don't understand, because I've never seen anyone scream while lightly pumping, but it seems like a petty complaint..

A petty complaint indeed. That doesn't detract from the entertainment value that some extraordinary stories of screaming lifters provide.

you never entered a gym? Why?

I have seen guys screaming while lifting lightly and with poor form....it's sad to be honest.

Ahhhh... Okay yes I make noises when I work out. Actually I tend to get very irritated at certain things and curse out loud. It's a very un-ladylike habit. For example, I turn away for a moment and someone cuts in without saying a word and uses my shit :fire: Just tonight this happened. I turn around for a second and turn back to find out Grandpa who is like 100 years old removed some weights from the barbell I was using so I yelled FUCK then restacked the weights :D

oh and yes during sex I'm loud too

'Screamers' tend to make excessive noise when they are warming up. It is sad and embarassing. There is no need to be screaming when you are benching under 100 lbs.

I never said I never entered a gym. I work out at my gym at home, where I can focus better and do what I need without exchanging weights and waiting for machines.

i make a bit of noize when i'm lifting, like the really heay breathing kinda noize, sucking in air then queezing it out while i'm pushing the weight

i make the occasional scream when going to failiure (not a loud scream but a very slight one) it helps me get over the pain in my last reps

by no means do i do this for attention, i don't even look at anyone in the gym these days, i lift... make a note in my log book... then pace around the front of the gym trying to get myself psyked for the next set

oh and i drop weights too, i really don't giv a f*** if my body is so exhausted during an insane workout last thing on my mind is putting the weights down carefully, i'm too focused on the job in hand

i know the dudes you are on about though.. fat.. ugly.. big shoulders so they think they are a big man.. awful form.. shout across the gym.. spend 90% of the time chatting and the other 10% lifting weights they can't handle! them dudes used to piss me off and when they get in my way or chat right in my face it still dose piss me off

Yeah I do this as well (as does everybody else) its kinda hard not to do when you feel like one of your bodyparts is on :hot: . However its the guys whoose curling 40 pounds or benching 50 (just like the bencher and curler only guy) thats screming like a banchie that were talking about.

LFMAO! :D

Here are some snippets:

Rocky Jr. - Here's a hint: it's not that kind of gym.

Mr. Smith - Bench press? Check. Squat? Check. Incline press? Check. Upright row and lean way back? Check. Extra shearing on his joints? Check. Injury? On it's way.

Rack and Roller - When he's done, he rolls them back. It's a good thing too... I mean I wouldn't want him to exert himself.

Charlie Bandana - I'm sure he feels ultra hardcore, but he looks like a tool.

Laughter can make a person's day. Thanks young d!
