Ever since I was young, I always wanted to be the best when it came to sports. When I was in high school no matter what sport I was involved in, I wanted to stand out. I had a drive to be the best I could be. I pushed myself and set goals that many thought were unrealistic. I was all conference and received a scholarship due to my mindset. My coach I really would study the psychological aspect of athletics for hours. He used to drill in my head over and over that the only way I would achieve being a pro is if I thought like a pro. He told me you have to have a set routine and you gotta think you are a professional. You must conduct yourself as a professional. No matter how much talent you have you have to get your mindset right. This is when I was an amateur! Lets just say that mindset brought me to the next level and I eventually started winning events for the first time because of it. I eventually went on to compete at the professional level after competing in college. Once I got involved in bodybuilding and gaining an interest in it, I kept the same mindset. I thought to myself, why go to the gym and just settle for being just another gym member or lifter? When you walk in that gym you want to be the guy that stands out from everyone else. People seeing your intensity and making progress with your physique. I have never competed, since I am in my late 30's. But my mindset has always been "Just because you don't plan on competing doesn't mean you have to keep yourself from doing your best to look like you compete."
Do I feel that I would be able to compete right now? My answer is no. I am not at that level yet. But my mindset is that one day I will attain the physique of a person that does. This is why I live my life the way I do. I set goals and I study foods and nutrition constantly. I do my best to learn from the best. I feel that if you put your heart into something you should do your absolute best to be the best you can be. Why just settle for blending in with the typical gym member?
I see so many guys and girls out there who are unwilling to do the things it takes to stand out. Are they content just going to the gym and getting some exercise in and then living their life anyway they want to outside of the gym? I find that extremely wasteful. Especially if they have the potential to be great.
