Will they, or is Bush so polarizing that many people who are traditionally on the fence vote liberal because they think they have to in order to get a change?

Two years is a long time off especially when it comes to public opinion.

I think McCain and Giuliani are solid candidates who are less polarized then Clinton/Obama. It should be a good race.

IMHO, yes. W/ Hillary and Obama as the 2 dem leading candidates, Mccain has a great shot.

Hillary is unelectable, and Obama is too inexperienced.

The repub's have a great strategy going.

They're going to support Hillary and Obama since no one wants them to win. Even if you did want them to win, you'd probably not vote for them because you'd only vote for the person who you believe is going to win (wtf?) and end up voting repub.

So yeah, I see a hardcore conservative winning again. :clapping:

besides ive always prefered a government where the congress is controlled by the oppossite party as the sitting president. less gets done. and the government that governs best governs least

Sorry, but I hate Hillary's guts. I will not vote Dem if she runs.

That's the way to many dems feel. I can't see her winning the dem nomination. Either way if Clinton or Obama are on the dem ticket a Rep will be president again.

Republicans have the superior fundraising and smearing infrastructure. If it could make GW Bush look like a viable, qualified presidential candidate, anything is possible.

John McCain has a shot--he's courting all the right people. Rudy has no chance in hell.

I like Mccain. I disagree that Obama is unelectable though, I bet he'll be president w/in the next 12 years.

the dems are going to waste him too early. just like they did with edwards. the guy will get his ass beat about not having enough experience during the dem nomination process so that what ever happens the republicans wont even have to say it themselves the dems will already have done it. hillary will say he doesnt have the experience to be pres, but oh wait he is a great vice-pres candidate. just like kerry did with edwards. its a shame.

I hope the republicans don't stand a chance.

I think Obama is truly what our country needs, but I think he will be wasted on the stupidity that is so prelavent in the US. Also, I'd hate to see what being president will do to him and his family. Aside from not being in his kids' lives for the next 8 years, I feel he and his family would have to endure countless death threats and insults for being a black ("muslim") president. At the moment he's a young, ambitious, and optimistic. I think a lot would change in 8 years

But I realize I'm putting my faith in american's ability to vote for a woman or a black man (who may or may not have gone to a Muslim school, OMG what was he thinking at 5 years old, the scandel!). I hope either can and will happen, but who knows? Bush's fuckapalooza has made us feel that you're either a Democrat or a Republican, and damn whoever you're not. Both sides have good people who can fix our country, and it wouldn't be the first time we would have needed it.

So, tell me how Obama "is truly what our country needs".

Who ever wins they won't be half as bad as George Jr. Thank God I live in a blue state. We should send the fucking idiots who voted for him twice to Iraq. Call it idiot surge

I like Obama. He was against the Iraq war when other democrats were supporting it. Democrats try to act like they were against it the whole time, but as Lewis Black said "and the democrats didn't say shit!??? They didn't. Obama is more honest than any other candidate running. He has admitted to being human and making mistakes. I identify with many of the things he talks about. Obama is a hard working guy who made his success rather than having his career handed to him like Bush.

Obama has pushed for many bills that I supported. He sounds also like a person who could bridge the gap of racial segregation. Right now the majority of black people blame whitey for everything. Obama is a white man in a black man's body so to speak. The guy is as white as Colin Powel. He will run the country like a white democrat. We won???t have to hear about how whitey is holding the black man down as much.

Then white people can finally say, "wtf are you talking about loser?" "The president is black, nobody is holding you back but yourself, so get a job and shut the fuck up."

Ok, I was just goofing off there for a second, but I do believe Obama is a good person. If he wasn;t running with Hillary, I would vote for him.

exactly

I mean, he's no Chuck Norris, but until the day he runs for president, I'll settle with Obama or Clinton.

As far as democrats playing like they always hated the war, republicans did a similar thing with being Bush supporters until the dems got some control again, suddenly they hated Bush all along.

Obama does sound pretty decent, but there are two problems with your "whitey" theory:

1) Atlanta, Georgia is over 60% black with a large number of black leaders, but the locals still complain about the unfarness of the local government.

2) Black Americans (of the political bent) aren't over fond of Obama. His mother is a white American and his father is a Black Kenyan. None of the big name blacks really like him because his mother is the wrong race and his father is the wrong nationality. Obama doesn't have the sense of entitlement that's so common among black Americans, and they know this; And if they don't like him, they're going to make sure that their followers don't like him. "He's not a real black American", will be the cry of the day.

Crono, he isnt Muslim. He attended a mostly Muslim school while living in Indonesia as a child, but the school wasn't private, it was open to all religions. I'm almost certain he's Christian, didnt they talk about it in TIME?

I'm not sure either way, but I saw that piece on FOX where they went

"OMFG, Let's freak out, he went to a muslim school which means he's muslim and a terrorist. Shit! Vote Red!"

Then later the next night, on the Daily Show, Jon Stewart mocked and clarified with a properly equally biased democratic retort.

To answer you DOMS, my favorite part of Obama is his stance on ethics. He by far has the strongest stance on ethics and special interest money, the biggest downfall for American politics.

In his 8 years of presidency, if he ever gets to be the president, expect special interest money to dwindle dramatically, us to be out of the middle east, and a liberal but stern approach towards stem cell research, our borders, and other domestic affairs.

I understand the whole Muslim situation. That's why I put it in " ". I personally think that it's racist whether it's true or not that we think this is a reason not to vote for him, but that doesn't mean it won't be effective. I saw the Jon Stewart take on it as well

I'll give Hilary Clinton a shot.....

a money shot in her left eye.....

Racist or not, people, even on this board, will name that as a reason not to vote for him.
